This information has been given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, General VK Singh ( Retd) in his written reply in the Rajya Sabha. Apart from this, the minister said that the issue of reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has been taken up with the states and union territories.

The minister said that a total of 11 states and union territories have reduced VAT on ATF to less than 5 per cent.

These include Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, besides Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

New and existing airports to be developed

Apart from this, Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, VK Singh said that AAI has taken up the work of development of new and existing airports, which will be done in the next five years with an estimated cost of about Rs 25,000 crore.

This includes construction of a new terminal, expansion and modification of the existing terminal, expansion and strengthening of the existing runway. Along with this, strengthening of Airport Navigation Services (ANS) infrastructure, control towers and technical blocks etc. is also included.

Apart from this, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) airports in Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore are working on major expansion projects of about Rs 30,000 crore by 2025. Apart from this, an investment of Rs 36,000 crore has been planned in the development of new greenfield airports under PPP mode.

According to the reply given by the minister, the Government of India has given in-principle approval for the establishment of 21 greenfield airports across the country. So far, eight greenfield airports have become operational.

These include Sindhugarh and Shirdi in Maharashtra, Durgapur in West Bengal, Pakyong in Sikkim, Kannur in Kerala, Kalaburagi in Karnataka and Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.
