Income Tax Notice: If you have also filed ITR this year, then you will also be shocked to read this news. Yes, the Income Tax Department has issued intimation notices to about 22,000 taxpayers including salaried class, high net worth individuals, trusts and Hindu Undivided Families (HUF).

According to the news published in the Economic Times, this notice has been issued by the Income Tax Department after finding a difference between the deduction claimed in the return and the information given.

It was told in the ET report that the Form-16 or Annual Information System (AIS) or their data of the people to whom the notice has been sent is available with the Income Tax Department. The notice pertains to returns filed for assessment year (AY) 2023-24. All notices have been sent within the last 15 days.

According to the report, around 12,000 notices have been sent to the salaried class. It was claimed in the return that there was a difference of more than Rs 50,000 between the tax deducted and the records of the department.

Notices were also sent to about 8,000 taxpayers who filed tax returns under Hindu Undivided Family (HUF). A discrepancy of more than Rs 50 lakh was seen between their returns and the data released by the Income Tax Department.

The disparity for about 900 high net worth individuals was Rs 5 crore and above. The discrepancy for 1200 trust and partnership firms was more than Rs 10 crore. It was said in the report that through these notices, work is done to remove and rectify discrepancies in the tax declarations of taxpayers.
