Cyber fraudsters are fooling taxpayers and looting their money in the name of income tax refund. According to the official tweet of PIB Fact Check, a viral message has claimed that an income tax refund of Rs 15,490 has been approved to a person.
According to the tweet, it was written in that message that you have been approved a tax refund of Rs 15,490/-. This amount will be deposited in your account number 5xxxxx6755. If it is not correct please update your bank account information by visiting the link below.
IT department does not send any such message-
If you have any refund due then the Income Tax Department does not send any such message to you. Apart from this, you should avoid giving any kind of your banking information on the website link received in the SMS link. Because this could be a kind of phishing. Income Tax Department does not send any mail to anyone for his banking information. Apart from this, the department never sends you any mail for PAN number, password or credit card details.
You can protect yourself like this-
If you receive such a mail from anyone, then never open the link found in it. Also, you should not open any attachment. Even if you click on such a link by mistake, you should avoid giving any kind of banking information on it. Also, you should never cut the link from the message and paste it on your browser. If you ever receive any such mail, you can complain about it at webmanager@incometax.gov.in.
