How is the fraud happening?
People are getting messages for taking returns, in which it is written that your return has been processed, the total amount of return is so many rupees. All this money will be credited in your account, just click on the link given below to withdraw money and get your return.
PIB did factcheck
PIB has busted a similar message in a factcheck, in which taxpayers have been warned. In the screenshot shared by PIB, you can see that a message has come, which states that “Income tax refund of Rs 15,490 has been approved in your name, the amount will be credited to your account soon. Verify account number 5XXXXX6755, if it is not correct then go to the link given below and update your bank account details.

What do experts say?
Experts say that fraudsters keep adopting new tactics to loot people, due to which the general public has to bear the brunt of it. We appeal to the people not to pay attention to such messages. The government says that avoid being a victim of fraud in any way. Register its complaint immediately on cyber cell or portal, do not click on income tax return mail and links as it will divert you to fake website or application which will make you a victim of its fraud.

- Do not share your details with anyone.
- Avoid following suspicious links.
