Taxpayers need to keep in mind that the Income Tax Department will never ask you to give or update bank account information through messages. Income tax refund is sent directly to the bank account given at the time of filing return on behalf of taxpayers. Not only this, refund information is also given to taxpayers by the Income Tax Department through registered email ID and mobile number.
Refunds are sent only after the ITR is duly processed by the Income Tax Department. If the ITR is not processed and the tax department requires more information, it sends a notification to the registered email ID of the taxpayers.
