India Smartphone Market Share: Vivo replaces Samsung, Xiaomi still on top

New Delhi, Tech Desk. At present, not only India, but markets all over the world are closed due to Coronavirus. This has also impacted shipments of smartphone maker companies. In the first quarter of the year, many technology events were canceled due to coronavirus. At the same time, the supply chain has also been affected due to coronavirus in China in January-February. Despite this, Chinese smartphone maker companies have established their dominance in the Indian smartphone market. Data firm Canalys has released a report for the first quarter of 2020 of the Indian smartphone market. There has been a big upsurge in this report. Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has shipped more smartphones in the Indian market than Samsung.


According to the report, Vivo has almost doubled its sales year after year. The company has shipped 6.7 million units in the Indian market and pushed South Korean smartphone maker Samsung to number 2. Samsung was the number one company to ship to India in the early quarter of 2018. After this, Xiaomi snatched the number 1 crown from Samsung. After this, Samsung and Xiaomi ran a neck-to-neck fight for the next few quarters, but since the last 8 quarters, Xiaomi has been consistently number one in the Indian market. The company has shipped 10.3 million units in the Indian market. At the same time, Samsung has shipped 6.3 million units.

Xiaomi has a market share of 31 percent in the Indian market. While Vivo’s market share is 17 percent. At the same time, Samsung’s market share is 14 percent. According to the report, the Indian smartphone market has seen a growth of 12 percent year-on-year till March. Apart from Vivo, other smartphone companies of BBK Electronics OPPO, Realme and OnePlus have also seen an increase in market share. If you combine the shipments of all the companies of Chinese smartphone maker BBK Electronics, they have more than 40 percent share in the Indian market. Realme’s latest year-on-year shipment of BBK Electronics registered a growth of 200 percent.
