Let us tell you that a user named Shivgopi asked the railways on Twitter that he is traveling with his 62-year-old father and 51-year-old mother and due to old age, he has knee pain. In such a situation, they should be allotted the lower berth, as their parents are not able to move to the upper berth.
Railway replied
Responding to this, the official Twitter handle of Indian Railways Indian Railways Seva said that the reserved lower seat quota for senior citizens is applicable only to men above 60 years of age and women above 45 years of age. However, this reservation is applicable in the condition when it is traveling alone or or maximum two people.
If more than two senior citizens are traveling together or traveling with one senior citizen and other passengers who are not senior citizens, then they do not get reservation. However, the ticket checking staff may provide lower berths to senior citizens who have been allotted upper or middle berths at the time of booking.
