The Central Government on Tuesday said that the Indian Railways has installed lifts and escalators at 497 stations for the disabled, elderly and children across the country. So that it can be easy for such people to go to one station as well as move from one platform to another. Now with the help of lifts and escalators, people from the elderly to the disabled will be able to easily reach their oncoming train without delay.
The Ministry of Railways said that Indian Railways is providing escalators at state capitals and cities with a population of more than one million or at stations with a movement of more than 25,000 people every day. The ministry said that till August 2022, 1,090 escalators have been installed at 339 stations.
Indian Railways is constantly trying to improve passenger amenities at various stations and installation of escalators and lifts on railway platforms is a part of it. This has also become necessary because the number of passengers traveling by train is increasing rapidly. In view of the increasing numbers, there is no problem on the platform and people can easily reach their platform, hence it becomes very important to install escalators and lifts.
The ministry said that such a facility would facilitate improved exit and entry of passengers on the platform, which is another step in improving the safety of passengers. Let us inform that earlier due to lack of such facilities at these stations, differently-abled and elderly passengers had to face problems, but now the journey will become easier with lifts and escalators.
