People from 25 villages are traveling for free from this train for the last 73 years. You must be thinking that while on one hand the ticket prices of all the trains of the country are being increased, on the other hand why do people travel for free in this train and how does the railway allow it?

Train run for the information of Bhagra Dam

Actually, this train is run for the purpose of giving information about Bhagra Dam. So that the future generation of the country can know how the biggest Bhakra Dam of the country was built.

They should know that what were the difficulties faced in making this dam. Bhakra Beas Management Board operates this train. To make this railway track, an inaccessible path was made by cutting the mountains.

People traveling for free for the last 73 years

This train is running for the last 73 years. It was first run in the year 1949. 300 people from 25 villages travel daily through this train. Students benefit the most from this train. The train runs from Nangal to Dam and travels twice a day.

The special thing about the train is that all its coaches are made of wood. Neither Hawker nor you will get TTE in it.

train runs on diesel engine

This train runs on diesel engine. 50 liters of diesel is consumed in a day. Once the engine of this train is started, it stops only after coming back from Bhakra. Through this train, people from the surrounding villages of Bhakra including Barmala, Olinda, Nehla Bhakra, Handola, Swamipur, Kheda Bagh, Kalakund, Nangal, Salangdi and other areas travel.

circling twice a day

This train starts from Nangal at 7:05 in the morning and at around 8:20 this train comes back from Bhakra towards Nangal. At the same time, once again in the afternoon at 3:05 it runs from Nangal and at 4:20 in the evening it comes back to Nangal from Bhakra Dam.

The train takes about 40 minutes to reach Bhakra Dam from Nangal. When the train was started, 10 coaches used to run in it, but now it has only 3 coaches. In this train, one coach is reserved for tourists and one for women.
