Many special trains are being run by the Railways during the festival season. For the convenience of the passengers, 179 trains have been started by the Railways for Diwali and Chhath. Meanwhile, railway passengers have been given free food facility. However, this facility has been provided only in luxury trains like Duronto Express, Shatabdi and Rajdhani and that too if the train is late by two hours.

If these trains arrive or run on time, then the benefit of free food will not be available, but if they are running late by 2 hours or more then you can demand free food. According to a report in Mint, travelers can either have a full meal or a mid-meal snack, or breakfast or lunch, etc. Along with this, you can also get some selected beverages.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) is expanding its food service infrastructure by building new kitchens and refurbishing old ones. WhatsApp facility is also being provided to IRCTC customers to order food online. Now with the help of this app you can also order food. Meals can be sent to passengers only with their PNR number.

Significantly, Indian Railways is running 179 special trains for Diwali and Chhath, which are running from Delhi to the cities of Bihar and UP , besides some other places. If you also have to go home on festivals and are not getting a confirmed ticket, then you can take advantage of the confirmed ticket by booking in these trains.
