Passengers often book a month in advance for a confirmed seat in trains, but sometimes it happens when the journey has to be canceled at the last moment. In such a situation, the passengers either get the ticket canceled or can transfer it to someone else.
However, if you wish, you can also change the date of travel. Indian Railways gives this facility to the passengers. According to railway rules, passengers can change the date of journey without canceling their ticket, for which no charge will be taken.
This facility is very good for those passengers who do not want to cancel the journey but want to do it on a later date. In such a situation, they do not need to cancel or transfer the ticket, rather they can travel on a later date by changing the travel date.
However, this facility is applicable only on confirmed tickets booked offline. If you have booked the ticket through IRCTC website, then change in date of journey will not be possible.
To change the date of your journey on a confirmed ticket, you will have to surrender your ticket at the reservation counter about 48 hours before the departure of the train, as well as apply for a new date. Apart from this, you will also get the option to upgrade the class. No charge will be taken for changing the date. But, if you change the class then you have to pay extra amount for that.
Remember any passenger can change the date of journey of reserved tickets only once so you cannot avail this facility more than once. Indian Railways is providing many services for the convenience of its passengers. However, most of the passengers are not aware of these services.
