Railways will run these trains for workers going to Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai from areas like Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Bengal and Jharkhand.
New Delhi. Indian Railways is going to give a big gift to the poor and common man of the country. To meet the demand of low-income passengers, the Railways will soon run regular non-AC trains on long routes. The special thing is that the railways have been identified and these train services will start on these routes before the next general elections. This will be a big gift for the poor and working class people, because crores of workers travel to big cities in connection with work.
Number of commuters, especially migrant workers, from areas like Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Bengal and Jharkhand traveling to big cities in search of livelihood opportunities in Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and some parts Lasts longer. Railways have identified these routes after studying the pattern of waiting list tickets and assessing the high footfall at several stations.
These trains will run permanently on major railway routes
As per the TOI report, these train services will be permanent which aims to reduce the pressure of passengers on other trains running on congested railway routes. In fact, every year the Railways run special trains on certain routes for the passengers during festivals, but on the contrary, these non-AC trains will run permanently. In the last 9 years, Railways has laid new tracks of about 20,000 route km, therefore, it has got additional capacity to run more trains.
Railways have considered historical data and origin-destination pattern regarding this action plan. Under this, these low-fare non-AC trains will run from areas from where a large number of migrant workers go to big cities.
Soon after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Railways had run hundreds of special Shramik Express trains on these routes to bring migrant workers back home from big cities. Indian Railways will convert the remaining 20,000 old conventional coaches into safer LHB coaches in the next 3 years, which will make train travel comfortable as well as safe.
