Aviation sector regulator DGCA has imposed a penalty of Rs 30 lakh on airline IndiGo for certain systemic deficiencies in documents related to operations, training and engineering procedures. Indigo’s A321 class of aircraft had four incidents of ‘tail strike’ within six months this year, following which the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducted a special audit of the airline.
What is ‘tail strike’?
Let us tell you that when the ‘tail’ of the aircraft starts touching the runway at the time of take off or landing, it is called ‘tail strike’.
DGCA gave information
DGCA said in a press release on Friday that during the audit it has reviewed the documents and process related to Indigo’s operational, training, engineering and FDM (flight data monitoring) program. According to the statement, the special audit found some systemic deficiencies in the operational/training procedures and documents related to the engineering procedures.
Show cause notice issued
In this context a show cause notice was issued to the airline. The DGCA said the airline’s reply was “assessed at several levels and was not satisfactory”.
30 lakh fine has been imposed
According to the press release, “DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on IndiGo airline and has directed it to amend its documents and procedures in line with DGCA regulations and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) guidelines.”
