Indigo Update: In the first quarter of the current financial year, Indigo had presented excellent results and the company had made record profits. After which the airlines have decided to increase the salaries.
Indigo Hikes Salary: In the festive season, the country’s largest domestic airlines company Indigo has given a salary increase to its pilots and cabin crew. The increase in salary will be considered effective from October 1, 2023. The salary of employees has been increased by an average of 10 percent, although the increase is different for each employee.
According to the ET report, IndiGo has increased the salary of cabin crew by an average of 10 percent. The company has made a provision for fixed pay for 70 hours, according to which the pilots will get minimum salary for 70 hours. Pilots will get overtime after 70 hours. IndiGo’s rival airlines Akasa and Air India pay fixed pay to their pilots for 40 hours.
Indigo has increased the salary at a time when massive attrition rates are being seen across all airlines. It has become a big challenge for the airlines to retain their senior captains and trainers. In recent times, different airlines have placed orders for a large number of new planes, while pilots from different airlines are leaving and joining other airlines.
Recently, Akasa has approached the court against 43 pilots because these pilots have not completed the notice period of six months. Airlines were forced to increase salaries twice in a month. Air India had increased the salary by 20 percent in April.
IndiGo’s decision to increase salaries will benefit 4500 flight crew. After the announcement of the results for January to March, the airlines had also announced to give a bonus of 3 percent of the salary to its crew members. In the first quarter of 2023-24, the company had made a record profit of Rs 3090 crore, which is the highest in the history of the airline. The company’s market share in the domestic aviation market is more than 60 percent.
