ITR verification required
It is mandatory to e-verify within 30 days of filing your ITR. Last date for ITR E-Verification is August 31. Earlier this time limit was 120 days. However, the Income Tax Department has reduced the ITR verification deadline to 30 days with effect from August 1, 2022. If you fail to verify your income tax return within this time limit, it will not be treated as filed on behalf of the income tax deposit. This means your ITR will not be processed.
No tax refund
If you do not file and verify your ITR within the time limit, then no tax refund will be given to you. According to the Income Tax Department, tax refund is issued only to those who verify ITR.
How to e-verify ITR online
Income tax return can be verified in six ways. E-verification can be done by sending OTP to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar, EVC through your pre-validated bank account, EVC generated through Demat account, EVC through ATM or Net banking and Digital Signature Certificate.
How to know whether your ITR has been e-verified or not
During verification, a message will be sent to you from the Income Tax Department. Information about e-verification will be given in the message. At the same time, information will also be given through email whether your e-verification is complete or not.
