ITR Filing Last Date: The last date for filing income tax return (ITR Filing) without any penalty is 31 July 2023 i.e. today. Taxpayers can contact the department’s helpdesk, which is open throughout the day today to assist taxpayers in filing ITR, making tax payments and other related services. As per Section 234F of the Income Tax Act 1961, whoever files ITR late will have to pay a penalty of up to Rs 5,000.

However, it has already been clarified by the Finance Secretary that the government has no plans to extend the last date for filing ITR. The Finance Secretary had said in the past that this time more ITR returns have been filed than last year.
