To whom to complain

Taxpayers can complain about non-receipt of refund on incometax.gov.in. Apart from this, you can also complain about this on the toll free number 1800-103-4455 of the Income Tax Department. This number can be called on every working day from 8 am to 8 pm. Also, if you want, you can complain about it on the e-filing portal as well.

How to check status with acknowledgment number

According to the Income Tax Department, you can check your refund status after 10 days of filing ITR. If you want to check your ITR refund status through exposure number, here are the tips below:

  • Login to Income Tax e-Filing Portal link
  • Login using User ID and Password
  • Go to My Account and click on Refund/Demand Status
  • Go to the drop down menu, select ‘Income Tax Return’ and click on ‘Submit’ option
  • Click on Acknowledgment Number
  • All your ITR details including date of issue of refund will open on the new page

Check status through PAN card like this

Apart from the acknowledgment number, you can also check the refund status online through your PAN card. You can follow these steps to check refund of income tax return through PAN card.

  • Login to https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/servlet/RefundStatusTrack
  • Enter your PAN number and select assessment year 2022-23 and click on submit option
  • After doing this your ITR refund status will open in front

What do you see in the status

If the refund is rejected in the status, then you will soon get a notice from the Income Tax Department and the outstanding amount will be accounted for. After this you can check all your documents and deposit your outstanding tax by calculating the tax.

If your details filled in the return are correct then you can file your ITR again. For this, you can fill your rectification return under section 139(4) of Income Tax. Along with this, you will also have to attach all the documents to claim the refund. If your ITR has been wrongly filled, then pay your tax immediately and file the return again.

If you forget the deduction…

If you see ‘forgot to enter deduction’ in the ITR status, then you can file your return again. You can incorporate back the deductions you forgot to enter earlier by filing a revised return.

If the bank details are wrong…

Even if the bank details entered by you in the ITR are not correct, the refund may get stuck. You will come to know in the status that you have made a mistake in the bank details. After this you can update your bank details. Your refund money can come back after the bank details are updated.
