User data of COVID-19 Self Test Systems Checker has been leaked from Reliance Jio’s database. The reason for this was that the database remained without a password.
Reliance Jio launched a tool after the Corona Virus outbreak Covid-19 Self Test Symptoms Checker. According to the report, due to a mistake made on the side of Jio, the data of users became public.
A report by Tech Crunch says that the core database of Reliance Jio’s systems checker was found on the Internet without a password. Security database Anurag Sen found this database on 1 May.
Significantly, in this database without Jio’s password, millions of people had logs and records. This server contained the website’s running logs and error messages from other systems. Not only this, there was also data of self-test conducted by the user in this database.
This database also had information about the version of the browser of the users and the operating system which is usually used to load the website. However, experts believe that such data can also be used to track online activity of users.
Surprisingly, this Jio’s insecure database also had some users’ locations. However, the location data was only for those users who gave location access to the systems checker or browser.
According to the report, this database of Reliance Jio contains information such as self-test report of users, age, relative test and gender.
The surprising thing is that Tech Crunch has claimed that they are able to access the exact location data of users from the data they have received from Jio.
Not only this, based on this location data, they are able to identify the user at home. Since the database contained latitude and longitude records, this is possible.
According to the report, according to the information received from this database, there is data of users of most big cities like Mumbai and Pune.
A spokesperson for Reliance Jio has said, ‘We have taken action on this immediately’. However, Jio has not told this in detail yet. For example, how many people have had their data leaked, what kind of information has been leaked and where the company has defaulted.
Significantly, cyber security experts and privacy savvy have been raising questions about the Corona Tracing App for some time. What was feared is happening.
Actually, the private data of the user is accessed in the corona tracking app, but many countries are making an app keeping in mind the privacy of the user. The Government of India has created the Arogya Setu App, which has been downloaded by the people. However, questions related to privacy are also arising on this.
