Through the new import management system, the government aims to monitor the import of laptops, tablets and computers into the country. The government clearly says that it does not want to create any hindrance in the supply of these products and it also has no intention of establishing a license raj.

The companies that have received approval to import include Dell International Services India, Apple India, HP India Sales Pvt. Ltd., Lenovo India, Asus India, IBM India, Samsung India Electronics, Xiaomi Technology India, Cisco Commerce India, Siemens Limited, and Bosch. Ltd. is incorporated.

The government had so far received 111 applications for import of these IT products. Only last month, the restrictions on import of laptops and personal computers were changed. All major IT hardware companies have already taken approval. All the applications are being disposed of within the stipulated time and no applications are pending now.

Actually, earlier the government had decided to ban the import of laptops, personal computers and tablets. The government’s argument was that it wanted to promote domestic manufacturing. But hardware companies strongly opposed this decision of the government. So problems arose in the supply in the country, after which the government had to go on the back foot.
