How to link Aadhaar to mobile SIM using OTP
In this article we will let you know detailed process to link Aadhaar to mobile number using One time password (OTP)
The Indian telecom market with subscriber base of over a billion is second-largest in the world only after China. The Telecom department has provided 3 ways to link the registered mobile number with the AADHAAR Card. They are IVRS method, app based method and OTP based method. Since the time Government has made linking of the registered mobile number with Aadhaar card compulsory, the Telecom Department has devised user friendly ways to link the same where you need not go to the store of the service provider to do the same. It is now easier for the subscribers to verify their mobile number and link them with their 12 digit UID of Aadhaar card from anywhere in the country.
The telecom operators are also directed to offer this verification service at the subscribers’ doorsteps for special cases like senior citizens and special cases with disability, illness or any other mobility issues. Further the operators are supposed to robust their online mechanism to service such a request. This can be done through the operator’s customer webpage.
Below is the step wise process to link Aadhaar to mobile number using a one-time password (OTP) :-
- Message the Aadhaar UID number from your registered mobile number to the number provided by your operator
- The service providers will then do a demographic verification of the number.
- Post the verification, the operator will request the UIDAI for the OTP
- OTP will be sent to the mobile number by the UIDAI
- The user will feed this OTP to verify the Aadhaar ID on the operator page to complete the e-KYC process.
This e-KYC based on Aadhaar registration is essential for all the new SIMs. Government has requested all the operators to verify all the old prepaid and postpaid customers for the reverification of e-KYC through 12 digit Aadhaar Card UID number. The whole activity is scheduled to get completed by early 2018. Also, read – How to Link Aadhaar to PAN
