The DMEO said in the RFP documents that the government implements the largest public food and nutritional safety measure in the world through the National Food Security Act (NFSA) enacted in 2013. The surprising thing is that despite such huge expenditure on food safety in India, the results have not been particularly good. India’s share in global hunger is about 30 percent.

Is the logic of evaluation-

Explaining the logic behind the valuation of LPG subsidy, DMEO further said that India is the third largest energy consumer in the world after China and America. DMEO further added that the current consumption of LPG in India has increased to 12.3 per cent of the total petroleum products compared to 1.13 per cent of kerosene. Ongoing schemes will potentially increase LPG usage further, making their evaluation mandatory.

Demand is continuously increasing-

The cost of implementing food subsidy under TPDS was Rs 4,22,618.11 crore as per the revised estimates for 2021, while the cost of implementing MDM and ICDS was Rs 12,900 crore and Rs 17,252.21 crore, respectively. According to DMEO, the consumption of petroleum and natural gas in India is more than one-third of the country’s energy needs. Moreover, with the increasing population, economic growth and demand for clean energy, the demand for oil and gas has been increasing in the last few years.
