LPG Gas Subsidy: Gas subsidy payment by public sector oil marketing companies declined to just Rs 2,706 crore in the first nine months of FY 2021-22 from Rs 37,585 crore in 2018-19. This information has come out from a question done under the Right to Information Act.
Nagpur’s Abhay Kolarkar had sought information from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas about the subsidy given to domestic gas consumers in the last five years.
The subsidy burden on the government has come down as the retail prices of LPG continued to rise during this period. LPG is being used for cooking in the kitchens of more than 39 crore households in the country.
The RTI reply revealed that in the year 2018-19, three public sector oil marketing companies had paid Rs 37,585 crore towards gas subsidy. During April-December in the current financial year, it has been only Rs 2,706 crore.
