More than seven years after the launch of the scheme, the number of people taking advantage of the scheme had decreased due to the huge increase in the prices of LPG cylinders.

According to the government data, the beneficiaries of PM Ujjwala were not getting their cylinders refilled due to expensive LPG. In 2022, the government told the Parliament that in the last five years, 4.13 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana have not refilled even a single LPG cylinder. There are a total of 7.67 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana who had refilled only one LPG cylinder.
