Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana: The Central Government has announced subsidy on domestic LPG gas cylinders, giving great relief to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. After this announcement of the government, people will get cooking gas at a cheaper price.
After the new notification of Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, 9.59 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana will get a subsidy of Rs 200 on 14.2 kg LPG gas cylinder per year. At the same time, the government has also given permission to fill 12 cylinders in a year. This means that the Union Cabinet has approved a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder on 12 cooking gas cylinders during a financial year.
How much will be the burden on the central government
With this decision of the central government, the total expenditure for the financial year 2022-23 will be Rs 6,100 crore and for the financial year 2023-24 will be Rs 7,680 crore. This burden will be on the treasury of the central government. This subsidy has been approved after the approval of the cabinet.
These companies are already giving this subsidy
All major oil marketing companies Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) are giving this subsidy from 22 May 2022. The Central Government has said in its statement that there has been an increase in the prices of LPG due to many reasons. In such a situation, it is necessary to protect the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana from this. For this reason subsidy has been approved, due to which the poor families will get a big relief.
LPG consumption increased under Ujjwala scheme
The government said that it will continue to give subsidy under the Ujjwala scheme. That is, the beneficiaries of this scheme will continue to get the benefit of LPG subsidy. Talking about the average LPG consumption of PMUY beneficiaries, it has increased by 20 percent from 3.01 refills in 2019-20 to 3.68 in 2021-22.
Non-subsidized cylinder price
During this month, the central government had increased the non-subsidized 14.2 kg cylinder by Rs 50, after which the price of LPG in the country’s capital Delhi has gone up to Rs 1,103 per unit. At the same time, the price of commercial LPG cylinder 19 kg has increased by Rs 350.50 to Rs 2,119.50 per cylinder.
