Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Monday expanded its battery electric vehicle range in India by introducing the locally manufactured EQS 580 model. This is the first time that the seven-seater electric SUV model has been produced in India outside the US. The EQS 580 4Matic model is the company’s second vehicle after the EQS sedan car to be locally manufactured at Mercedes’ Pune plant. This electric SUV gets a 122 kWh battery pack in the SUV. The company claims that it will cover a distance of 809 km on a single charge.

Showroom price Rs 1.41 crore

Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Santosh Iyer said that this will be our sixth EV in India and the second car to be locally manufactured in India. We are also proud that India has become the first market outside the US to locally manufacture the EQS. Iyer said that local production has helped in keeping the price of this electric SUV low. The showroom price of the EQS SUV 580 4Matic starts at Rs 1.41 crore. The car manufacturer introduced the EQS sedan in India about 18 months ago, of which it has sold more than 500 units so far.

Top speed 210 kmph

This electric SUV gets a 122 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor setup. This produces 536 bhp of power and 858 Nm of peak torque. This SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.7 seconds. Its top speed is 210 kmph. Talking about the features, the EQS SUV has MBUX Hyperscreen, which gets instrument cluster, central touchscreen and passenger-side display with a large single-piece display. The SUV is offered with three rows of seating. Other features include Burmester 3D surround sound system, ventilated front seats with powered thigh support, electric adjustable second row, rear armrest and rear axle steering.
