Banks charge penalty from customers for not maintaining minimum balance in the savings account. To avoid this penalty, it is necessary to have a minimum amount in your savings account. If the Average Monthly Balance (AMB) in your savings account is less than the amount decided by the bank, then this penalty is charged from you.
Let us tell you how much money State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank (ICICI), HDFC Bank (HDFC) and Bank of Baroda charge from their customers as penalty.
This much fine is imposed on SBI customers for not maintaining minimum balance-
State Bank of India is the largest government bank in the country. Suppose, if it is mandatory from SBI to have at least three thousand rupees in your account, then according to the rules of the bank in metro cities, if 50 percent i.e. Rs. 1500 is left in your savings account, then SBI will charge you an additional amount of Rs. 10 on this. Collects GST. Whereas if the amount in your account reduces by 50 percent to 75 percent, then the bank will charge you Rs 12 along with GST. In rural areas these fines are Rs 5 and Rs 7.5 respectively.
This much fine is imposed on ICICI Bank customers-
If your account is in ICICI Bank, then the bank charges a penalty for non-maintenance of minimum monthly average balance (NMMAB) in your account. If your account is in metro, urban, semi-urban or rural area, then Rs 100 is charged by the bank on NMMAB. Apart from this, five percent of the reduction in Minimum Average Balance (MAB) is also recovered by the bank. Whereas if your account is in a rural area, then five percent of the reduction in the minimum average balance of the customers is charged.
This much fine is imposed on HDFC Bank customers-
If your account is in HDFC Bank and the amount in your account is zero or up to one thousand rupees, then Rs 450 is charged from account holders in metro and urban areas. Whereas if the amount is Rs 1000 to Rs 2500, the bank charges Rs 270 from you. Talking about semi-urban areas, Rs 300 is charged from the account holders if the amount in the account is between zero and Rs 2500.
This much money will have to be kept in Bank of Baroda-
Dena and Vijaya Bank have been merged into Bank of Baroda. Now the bank has made it mandatory for its customers to keep an amount of Rs 2,000 for metro cities and Rs 1,000 for small towns in their Advantage Savings Account every quarter. If a Bank of Baroda customer is unable to maintain the minimum balance then he will have to pay a fine. There is a fine of Rs 200 for not maintaining minimum balance in the account of metro and other urban areas. Whereas for non-urban areas the amount of fine has been fixed at Rs 100.
