Tax notices have been sent to one lakh people, whose returns have been found to be wrong and these notices have not been sent without any reason. According to the Finance Minister, the tax department is working fast to settle the notices.
On the occasion of Income Tax Day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that tax notices have been sent to about one lakh people whose returns have been found to be wrong and these notices have not been sent unnecessarily. However, the tax department will settle all the cases by March 2024. According to the Finance Minister, the tax department is working fast to settle the notices given and it will pick up pace in the coming days. If we look at the figures of last year and this year, the satisfaction of the taxpayers with the Income Tax Department has increased.
Filing tax returns is a chore: Sitharaman
The Finance Minister has assured that in the coming days, the cases of notices sent by the tax department will be processed expeditiously in a transparent and responsible manner. According to the Finance Minister, today the system of the tax department has become such that people are getting ease with the use of technology and filing tax returns has become a snap due to the availability of pre-filled forms. Not only this, through this people get information about all the sources of their income. Because of this, tax disputes are to be reduced and tax collection is to be facilitated.
Nirmala Sitharaman said that whether it is small businessmen, start-ups or cooperative societies, the government’s aim is to walk with the people instead of increasing tax rates. According to him, to make the new tax regime more attractive, no tax has been kept up to 7.27 lakhs and the government’s attitude has been in favor of the taxpayer even after opening old cases.
Tax collection tripled
Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra said that the tax collection has tripled during PM Modi’s tenure. This figure has increased from five lakh crore rupees to 15 lakh crore rupees. Explaining the reason behind this, he said that the number of tax payers has also increased, as well as such facilities have been given to the tax payers by the department, due to which they are not facing any difficulty in paying their taxes.
The department scrutinizes the returns closely.
Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman Nitin Gupta said that the tax department continuously updates the returns of taxpayers as well as intensively examines their returns and work is also being done to solve the problems of taxpayers received through all means. He told that after the introduction of the new version of the website, the convenience of the people has increased.
Average time taken in return processing is 16 days: On the occasion of Income Tax Day, on the occasion of Income Tax Day, while enumerating all the facilities, it was told that the average time taken in return processing has reduced to 16 days in the financial year 2022-23 as compared to 26 days in the previous year, work will be done to bring it down further in the coming days.
