NEW PASSPORT RULES YOU NEED TO KNOW




Recently, the Ministry of External Affairs declared new rules for applying for a passport. And here we have rounded up some of the major changes that these new rules have bought in.

  • DOCUMENTATION FOR PROOF OF BIRTH

As per old rules, submission of a birth certificate was compulsory for all applicants born on or after 26th January 1989. But the new rules have bought in some relaxation in this regards. Now, any of the following documents containing the Date of Birth (DOB) of the applicant will suffice:

  • Birth Certificate (BC) issued by the Registrar of births and deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other approved authority to register the birth of a child born in India
  • Transfer/school leaving/matriculation certificate issued by the school last attended/recognized educational board
  • PAN card
  • Aadhar card/E-aadhar
  • The copy of the service record of the applicant’s (of govt. servants) or the pay pension order (of retired govt. employees), duly attested/in-charge of the administration of the concerned ministry/certified by the officer/ department of the applicant
  • Driving license
  • Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India
  • A copy of policy bond issued by the public life insurance companies

  • DETAILS OF PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN:

In a welcome move, the new passport rules has done away with the mandate requiring names of both parents at the time of application. An applicant now only needs to provide the name of either one of the parents or the legal guardian. This makes it easier for children with single parents or orphans to apply for a passport. For spiritually oriented people like Sadhus/Sanyasis, there have provisions made for them to mention the name of their spiritual leader in place of their biological parents.

  • ANNEXES

The total number of annexes has been reduced from 15 to 9. Annexes A, C, D, E, J, and K have been eliminated and some of them have also been merged. Lesser annexes means less worry for people to collate documentation.

 

  • ATTESTATION

While all annexes needed attestation from a Notary/Executive Magistrate/First Class Judicial Magistrate previously, henceforth all these annexes can now be in the form of a self-declaration from the applicant on plain paper. This means no running around for attestation that one had to do previously.

  • MARRIED/DIVORCED PERSONS:

The need for a marriage certificate has been discontinued (along with annexure K). Also, in case of a divorce the applicant will not be required to provide the name of their spouse. This is another interesting change that has been made taking into consideration changing societal norms.




  • WORK RELATED URGENT PASSPORTS:
    In case of urgent passports, if a government employee is not able to procure the NOC (no objection certificate) or identity certificate from their employer’s side, they can submit a self-declaration stating that they have given a prior intimation letter to their employer informing that they are applying for an ordinary passport to a passport issuing authority.

  7. but what about place of birth, if I don’t have a birth certificate or a leaving certificate and have a pan card , policy doc , then what about the place of birth as place of birth in not mentioned in aadhar or pan card. the police people than show their highhandedness for the same and reject the document, also there are chances that one can fake place of birth

    • In application for Passport, the dropdown provides for Reissue of Passport and in dropdown for reason, you have Exhaustion of pages as an option. Choose both and make an application as you do for new passport. You will not be required to provide all documents, old passport is adequate. Depending of need for police verification, the processing time is between 10 to 24 days. Tatkal option is possible only if police verification is on record, else you can apply as Normal applicant. I was forced to convert from Tatkal to Normal and i am still guessing how was my earlier passport issued if police verification was not complete? Hope this helps

    • Madam ji u can apply for additional pages of same passport or u can get new passport of 60 pages. There is no problem for that.

My daughters date went wrong as my father applied when she is at the age of 3y now she is 18y old she didn’t ever travelled on that is there solution in getting passport with her date of birth on certificates and aadhar. Pls guide if there is any possibility now she is studying mbbs it will be helpful for her further studies in abroad

  21. Police verification and LIU Verification of the individual before issue of passport leads to corruption as police man visits at the address of the individual, requiring passport and extract money and if denied haress individual and his family members.
    Rules should be made in such a way so that this practice can be stopped

    • My friend applied for renewal of passport supporting prior information annexure form because his employer (government) was not issuing the NOC and was pressing to submit photo copy of entire passport while he had attached the photo copy of first and last page of passport at the time of applying for NOC. Are they authorized for the same as per guide lines of passport. Please help him.

    unable since my father expired in 1998 and my mother is 91 yrs old and dont have any document like epic,aadhar

    Please also tell me if somebody has lost his passport in long time ago (15 yrs.back ) and if he is going to apply now for new passport ,is it necessary to mention details of old passport in application or not.

  40. Superb efforts. Quite appreciable.only prayers need of the hour is to speed up quick disposal of all cases in Cooperative courts city civil courts and High Courts.   41. USELESS. The Govt.makes the rules easier but what about it’s employee ? they keep asking for all the documents. They are not satisfied with any one document. If you offer money than that is another thing.
    In the Post offices, it is the worst. I stay in a small District place. Here you have to take rounds for a week or 10 days, just to take the application form than the harassment starts. After trying for 2 months, I have given up the Idea to have a Pass port.

    • Carry a copy of the new passport rules with you. Underline with highlighter the relevant rule.
      The ignorant employees need to be trained .
      A col I know is so frustrated by the insistence for marriage certificate.

      You can use online application option. I did my family member passport. I just went once at passport office and within 1:45 hours, all formalities were completed. Within next few days, my passports were at my doorsteps.

    • Renewal of passport can be applied (1) here in India if its validity period is less than 12 months means the expiry date is within next 12 months and on receipt of new passport the NEW PASSPORT number can be intimated to the visa grant authority (2) Renewal of passport can be applied through Indian High Commission/Embassy in Germany after reaching there and new passport the NEW PASSPORT number can be intimated to the visa grant authority. Please contact your visa consultant for more clarification on the subject, you are not required to be worried about renewal of passport, concentrate on your Mission No 1,

    • Yes one can apply but, there will be gulf of difference between rules and implementation.

      An example: TDS deducted by Sr Postmaster, Dhanbad, but not issuing FORM 16 (AY 2017-18).
      Repeated REMINDERS has failed to draw his attention, as well as of SR, SUPERINTENDENT of POST OFFICES, Dhanbad Circle, Dhanbad.
      Approached to Postmaster General , Ranchi Division,but same fate.
      Copy forwarded to PMO office N.Delhi, but not yet responded.

      Alas! Day by day we are facing worst.

      • If you are an employee, the Post Office is bound to issue Form 16 for TDS. But if you are talking about TDS deducted from interest payments from any senior citizen pension scheme, you can log in to Income tax department website and you can get refund.

        As far as my knowledge, you can avail IT refund by submitting ITR online wherein the tds deducted details will be available registered with your PAN…Form 16 is required only when the details are not available there. Please check once, you may skip all this followups.

      • Send a registered letter requesting the form 16. Keep the receipt and acknolowedgement with you , also a photocopy of your letter. Give a complaint in a written paper to your nearest PAN office jurisdiction. You are safe then…. they will take action .

      Respected authority of passport department thanks for the new but please give the best training to the officers who are there on the front desk because ten times ten people ten documents no one gives the right information at one time why..????????

      • And how about Birth Place? Will they accept Aadhar / PAN as the only proofs, where Birth place is not an option?

        When it comes to TCS, they have well qualified people to help you. Why do we have jerks of government officials sitting in the same Passport Office who don’t even know how to talk with people. Does your camera’s have mic. If they do, request to have someone check for one day’s – any one day’s data and you will find out what I am talking about.

        Rules may change for betterment, however, until employees aren’t updated, there is no point of changing them.

      • Fine step to ease the troubles of PPort applicants. But has this changed rule been informed to the employees in PPort offices? Are they properly oriented or trained? Or will they continue with the age old practice? To some extent myself was a victim of the babus, though I received the passport a few days back.

      • You have rightly pointed out that for police verification we must pay to them otherwise u will not get d PP. It is their legitimate claim in addition to their pay n allowances without which their family will not survive. Modiji/Susmaji are unable to stop this corruption.

  78. This is a welcome change. It shows all is not lost for simplification of systems and procedures. It’s a good start and it must be extended to all Govt departments both Central and state. All depts. Should form special teams to go through the procedures with a tooth comb and weed out all unnecessary steps. The economy will jump start and it Will be there for all to see.   83. One more suggestion. Passport holders who request for reissue because pages are exhausted should be automatically permitted to apply as Tatkal applicants because existing passport must only have been issued after police verification… Hope someone in MoEA is reading this…

Rules are there but still one can create a set of problems if one desires. Time limit in issuing any document or doing any work is a must in this country in every field of administration be it issuance of passport or a court case.

  118. Since Aadhar has been made compulsory for I Tax, Bank a/c mobile etc & is considered primary document, which gives complete history, of the applicant, in my opinion govt should discontinue police verification as it will result in eradication of corruption & unnecessary harresment by police.

    This is now linked with PAN / Bank account and Mobile phone also!

    So, the Passport Form is to be more easy with only single page and supporting documents is to be only the Aadhar Card. I could not understand about the Police verification System is for What?

    Secondly, the Government is to hear my genuine plea about the Name problem and this is also to be taken in to account to AVOID unnecessary problem while Writing / mentioning the SOUTH INDIAN NAMES!

    What I say is, the Naming Style of south and north practice is to be allowed as per their own state’s procedures and as per the Documents of Educational Institutions they are having.

    In south there is no First-Middle- Last name practice! For Example my Name is V. RANGANATHAN, which could not be spited. V is the First letter of my father’s name. Ranganathan is my full name and all my Educational Documents will show my name as V.RANGANATHAN.

    At least the South Indian Politicians and Parliament Members should know the fact and take necessary action to do the needful and I humbly request our Govt. as well as our Law makers in this regard.

Police verification delay the passport and induces corruption. People already holding passport for ten/twenty years should be exempted from this undue embarrassment.

  140. In my opinion,It is still very difficult to obtain passport. Those who are having Bank account in a National Bank & also having Adhar card can be entitled to get passport. Bank already verified their KYC to continue their account. But till now there are lot of problem like police verification birth certificate etc are required. Govt is saying that Adhar Card is sufficient for a citizen then what is need for other record. Please issue as per these record so that people may move from one country to another country easily.

    I live in Brisbane, Australia, for the past about 9 years, on Bridging visa granted upto 2020, and my passport expires in March 2018, police verification on records, how much time will it take to get the renewed passport, with the introduction of two language passports.

For issuance of passport I was compelled to submit an affidavit certified by notary with a declaration that I am an illiterate as I couldn’t submit the school leaving certificate at the age of 55 in 2015 and I had to put my thumb impression though my PAN card shows my signature and my passport shows as an illiterate person putting thumb impression. How can it be rectified? Perhaps again I will be asked to pay fees!

  211. POLICE verification an assured source of income for police. Police verification is a legacy of British who had to do Police verification to control freedom fighters .UNFORTUNATELY NEHRU continued to keep out RSS sympathizers .There is no need to do police verification in every case ,the list should be reduced .Following cases does not need it-RENEWAL OF PASSPORT,GOVERNMENT SERVANTS,MINORS & EMPLOYEES OF REPUTED FIRMS. In fact police verification should be done without contact with person who has asked for PP. Only in doubtful case the individual should be called on by senior officer & informed grounds for denial of PP in writing. GOVERNMENT is wasting man power & money to do police verification which has been turned into source of income for police .Carry out study & reduce list to very few.

    • I HAVE RECENTLY APPLIED FOR PASSPORT FOR MYSELF AND MY WIFE. THE WHOLE PROCESS WAS VERY SMOOTH. ALSO THE POLICE VERIFICATION WAS DONE PTOMPT. THROUGH SMS I WAS APPRAISED OF EVERY STAGE AND THE PASSPORT WAS DELIVERED WITIN 14DAYS. NOW THE IVESTIGATING IFFICER COMES WITH A TAB AND THE NEXT DAY THE POLICE VERIFICATION REPORT WAS RECEIVED AT PASSPORT OFFICE AND A SMS IN THIS REGARD WAS SENT TO ME INCLUDING THE DESPATCH DETSILS EITH SPED POST NO. FOR TRACKING

  214. POLICE VERIFICATION has been turned in an assured source of income for police .British started it to check freedom fighters,& Nehru continued it to check RSS & their sympathizers. There is no need to do it in all cases .The list should be revue .Following do not need it-1.Renewal of PP-2. Government servants & their dependents, 3- Employees & THEIR DEPENDENTS .IN FACT THERE SHOULD BE NO CONTACT WITH PERSON ASKING FOR PP. Inquiry should be done without contact as police is using this to make money .I renewed my PP 4 time & each time had to give Rs 1000/- as Bakshis or he wont leave . POLICE VERIFICATION IS WASTE OF MAN POWER, MONEY & TIME. Review it as it is the main cause of delay in issue of PP

    • I fully endorse views of Brother Ashok Deshpande. Police Verification is pure waste of manpower, time, money, and energy and on top of that harassment and bribe. It shud be applied only in cases where the Passport Applicant has got criminal background and not otherwise. The Passport Authorities are equiped enough and they can very well verify a persons background and antecedent before issuing and passport.

BUT in my son’s birth certificate my name is Susan John Joseph (because my husband’s full name was written at that time in hospital records) So when l applied for my son’s passport the passport officials asked me who is the original mother is it Susan Joseph OR Susan John Joseph. They asked me to rectify the birth certificate as Susan Joseph but the corporation officials said that can’t be done.So my son’s passport was rejected.What can l do my money is gone and the number of days l took leave from school all wasted. We were not able to go to my sister’s house in Malaysia.BUT now l need to go to usa very urgently with my son for Medicare. Please please please some body help me.

  220. Good. Still more fine tunning is needed. Police verification after the issue of the Passport is ludicrous.

    Ministry should scrap the system of obtaining NOC from Police on every occasion, whenever a Government servant goes Abroad. This process consumes lot of time to get final NOC from the head of Office. Besides, running from pillar to post, sizeable out flow in the form bribe is wasted, if the intendee’s dwelling comes under different jurisdictions.

    1996-2016 तक जर्मनी मैं रहा हूँ मैं अभी भी इंडियन पासपोर्ट है मेरे पास । जर्मनी मैं रिन्यु करवाने पर वहाँ पर सिर्फ एड्रेस प्रूव मागंते हैं अब तक हर बार जर्मनी से ही रिन्यु करवाता आया चूँकि वहीं रहता रहा मैं ।

  231. It’s wonderful, pragmatic. I believe the authorities shall follow these changes religiously and do not insist upon the applicants to furnish documents which shall not be required henceforth. It is evident there had always been a room for improvement and dispense with unnecessary documents but authorities both PPO and Seva Kendra continued to follow the age old practices due to their adamant nature and lack of knowledge.
    We must also simplify Police Verification requirement. The most of the delays is attributed due to delay in issuing the NOC by Police. The documents are verified at more than 4 level including visit to the residence of the applicant. More than 15 to 20 documents are called for by the Police just to confirm the name and address of the applicant which also include the minors and Senior Citizens though they are exempted. Normally, Police are supposed to keep record of the locals who are convicted or wanted. Police has to simply confirm whether the applicant is one of them or otherwise and issue NOC after confirming the name , address and period of stay of the applicant.
    The applicant seeking the appointment should also be hassle free and prompt.

  341. I am very happy with the new laws for procuring a passport. It was an absolute headache earlier. I have made my passport with a lot of difficulty and also had to pay 7000/- just to get one done. I tried to have my son make his too but there was a lot of problems for him as we needed to submit lots of documents for change of name. marriage certificate, divorce decree etc and of course this time i was being charged 1000/- rupees less that means 6000/- for my son while i paid 7000/- for mine.

    So these new rules sound helpful and easy to do by one’s self than to arrange for someone to help out and then pay so much.

    • When a criminal case is pending major in nature, getting of Pass port is not easy. Further a no objection certificate may be obtained from the court based on the affidavit of securities and then apply for pass port and this may be entertained by the pass port authorities or not.

Few changes do need to come – The Type of Name of the applicant required to be written ( first middle last name etc,) should be in their own way as per the documents produced in support.     The police verification part is still a hassel.
    Formalities for enewal of my passport was completed on 23rd June’17 , at passport office ,Allahabad. On line tracking on on 7/8th June showed that police verification has been completed & passport is under issue & subsequently despatched on 10th July’17.
    Surprisingly , a policeman from concerned police station turned up at my residence on 9th July for police verification formalities. After completion, bribe money was demanded stating that the sun is to be shared with superiors and if not paid , sending verification report could be delayed.
    Requested to look into such issues and stream line / simplify police verification procedures ,exercising stringent control , to stop extortion of money / people are not harressed & put into difficulties.

  400. As per my earlier comment on 15/07/2017 in this page, First of all the Name problem is to be solved.

    Every passport applicant is to be instructed to have their own bank account prior to apply.

    In the Passport application form one more calm is to be added, asking the Bank details and it’s IFSC Code of the
    applicant. After get ready the Passport that should be dispatched to their respective bank.
    As soon as passport prepared the OTP may be sent to the applicant Mobile, which is to be shown to the Bank to receive the Passport.

    As per the norms KYC, PAN, AADHAR, MOBILE ARE ALL HAVING INTERLINKED ALREADY AND THE PASSPORT
    NUMBER WILL ALSO BE LINKED AUTOMATICALLY WHEN IT IS RECEIVED BY THE APPLICANT ON THE BASIS OF

  426. Present Modiji led Government under Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj is constantly trying to make issuance of Pass Ports hassle free & less cumbersome. Plus time limit has also been reduced for issuance of new Passport & also renewal.
    What’s now urgently required is to do away with police verification involving the applicant. It can be done internally between MEA & concerned Police Station. If any adverse police record existing then only matter be pursued with the applicant.
    Police verification is mostly farce & breeding corruptions. Hope Sushmaji will look into this matter.

Actually i have changed my personal name more than 4,5 years back and also i have a local edition of paper evidencing name change which is 5 years old. Birth certificate is the Primary evidence of the date time and place of birth, It gives amongst other things his religion,name and qualifications/occupation and religion and nationality of the parents. This is the basic document on the basis of which a person applies for admission to school,driving license, Pan Card Aadhar Card, Passport, job application for jobetc ,If the birth certificate is FAKE all subsequent documents based on that fake Date of Birth shall be FAKE. In those cases where the very birth of an individual to the parents shown in the documents like the Passport etc is in ISSUE, would an Aadhar Card/Pan Card/School record/Passport would be an adequate proof of the date of birth and his parentage and of the fact that he was really born on the date specified and to the parents mentioned in the documents now accepting the date of birth of a Passport applicant.

    Such a provision makes the HINDU ADOPTION AND MAINTENANCE ACT 1956 totally redundant,

    Trafficking in children / kidnappimg of newly borns in hospitals, etc shall increase no end;
    Young children/abandoned/lost or rendered homeless consequent to natural disasters would be a profitable hunting field for child traffickers. As a child can be put in a School either Govt /PRIVATE who can overlook the requirement of a birth certificate and based on the transfer certificate issued from that school subsequently the child becomes a leagally bonafide citizen of India and can voraciously claim rights to “Parental” and otherancestral properties as successor.

    CURRENT RELAXATIONS, FOR ACCEPTANCE OF DATE OF BIRTH FOR ISSUING A GOVT OF INDIA DOCUMENT ( PASSPORT) STATING THAT THE HOLDER WHOSE PERSONAL DETAILS( INCLUDING THE DATE OF BIRTH AS MENTIONED) IS A CITIZEN OF INDIA, ARE ULTA VIRES AS THESE WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT CONTRAVENE THE PROVISIONS O SEC 61 AND 62 OF THE INDIAN EVIDENCE ACT 1872, THESE SECTIONS ARE REPRODUCED BELOW:

    SEC 61. THE contents of a document may be proved either by primary or secondary evidence.

    Sec 62, Primary Evidence means the document itself produced for the inspection of the Court.
    ( IN the instant Case the Primary Document required to prove the date of Birth SHALL BE THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE OF THE HOLDER And not the Pan Card or the Passport))

    Furthermore
    Art 24 of the INTERNATIONAL COVENANT ON CIVIL AND POLICAL RIGHTS OF ANY CHILD provides
    ” 2. EVERY CHILD SHALL BE REGISTERED IMMEDIATELY,after Birrth and shall have a name”
    INDIA BEING a signatory to this Covenant is bound to implement the aforesaid provisions

    Our own Registration of Births andDeath Act provides that the birth of a child must be Registered with the Municipal Authorities / GRAM SABHA etc within 15 days of birth and obtain the Birth Certificate.. Even Still borns are to be report to these authorities

    All Hospitals /nursing homes are mandatorily required to report to the appropriate civil authority the date .time of birth of the child,

    Birth certificate can also be obtained from the Registrar/ SDM etc giving satisfactory reason for not getting the birth certificate.

    Furthermore,it is not the documents like the Passport/Pan Card etc which a person procures later in life, which bestow the protection of the FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS and other provisions of the Constitution

    • This new rule relexes you from providing birth certificate as much cases they do not have birth certificate. Any one alternate can solve your pending applicaton as any one alternate is available with each person.

    1. Police Office never inspects the matter for which he has been assigned such task
    2. The are only interested to earn under table income only

  544. Why for re-issue of passport , a person has to go through the same hasslels? Why to fill new form, submit document and visit passport office again ( and submit fees also). If govt wants it should integrate the police offices and person just give his past stay details and police office automatically confirms no legal cases pending against the person and passport should be re issued. There is a huge scope bu utilising digitisation and use of AADHAR…. the governance can become a lot better.

I had a horrible experience helping my wife getting a passport .In gujarat there is no mention of DOB in school t c or in any of the college marks cards.As required her name before marriage was ALKA KESHAVLAL VORA and as a mark of respect in gujarat it is a practice to write BAHEN OR BEN after the candidates name and we had a horrible time to make the concerned pp authorites understand that BAHEN and BEN are same AND R USED AS A MARK OF RESPECT.After 5 gruelling appointments got the passport.THE MORAL OF THIS EXERCISE IS NEVER TO GET RESPECT THAT EFFECTS U BADLY IN UR FUTURE

    K……………………………………..stands for Kottarvedu which is a family name
    Jagannadha……………………stands for personal name
    Reddy……………………………. stands for caste name

    Apart from the above first name last name and middle name what is this confussion

    1)Passport shows as kottarvedu Reddy Jagannadha
    2) Adhar card shows as Jagannadha Reddy K
    3) Voter card shows as Jegannadhan
    4) PAN card shows as K.Jagannadha Reddy

    In fact the name shown in PAN card is correct which tallys with Bank record Schoolrecord ,
    BC and Ration card But still the matter is pending for linking documents as it was remarked as mismatch what to do?

But still it’s required to improve the procedure, in case of “Tatkal” passport.   571. The Govt. initiative is praiseworthy. But official attitude is difference. Only yesterday, the 16th August 2017, I was advised to withdraw my application for change of the date of birth and asked to write withdrawal application on the ground of complexities of the matter. I did so to avoid harrassments but another other officer said apply again and bring order from Chief Judicial Magistrate to get change in DOB. However, the new rules don’t as for this and the list is clear. In my case I produced copies of Aadhaar, PAN card, Election ID and self declaration and whatever they kept asking. But at the end my efforts were defeated by officials.

  578. Very good amendment to ease the business. Congratulations to all the Passport holders and thanks to the Government of India.
    One more thing which is a very big hurdle in the issuance of Passport in the ‘Tatkal’ basis. Passport on Tatkal basis is only issued to those who produce a Verification Certificate from a Class I Gazetted Officer. Think how a poor person who need to go urgently to abroad and require a Passport, will arrange a Verification Certificate from Class I Officer.
    This is only a favour for rich and influencial people, who can arrange such certificate and get the Passport issued in a 2-3 days.

    My suggestion is that this clause may also be deleted and Tatkal Certificate may be issued to all person only with the local police report, who the individual will get personally issued from the concerned SHO or some other provision which may facilitate all the citizens to get a Passport on Tatkal basis.

My son who was doing BE II year at the time of applying for pass port they insisted for 10th SSLC Certifictes in original which has been retained by the College and also they retained all 10th, +2 certificates. They gave bonafide certificate and also he possess first and II semester mark statement of Anna University despite they insisted for 10th Original Certificate. As he could not able to submit the same sine the college has sent it to University, the pass port authorities issued PP with a seal immigration check required. If 10th Certificate is there in place they would issue immigration check not required by stamping on the PP. What nonsense the immigiration check required only when the person is not that much qualified to explain things at the time of boarding. Whereas when he is more qualified those certificates become null and 10th holds good. What type of rule it is. Now he has to spend another Rs,1500/- to remove immigration check required and has to obtain fresh PP with a seal immigration check not required? Whon’t the Govt think better and have a relook at the rules once again and amend? Is a curse on graduates who are doing their studies and could not able to produce X certificate for the above reason have to pay again Rs.1500/- and waste their 4 to 5 days time?

    • Date of birth in passport can’t be changed 5 years after issue: Government. Central government has informed the Kerala high court that it has decided not to entertain requests for changing date of birth in passports if the request is not made within five years of issuance. its same for all states.

    • You have to fill up the Passport Application Form and apply for “Re-issue of Passport”. You can submit the filled in application form at a PSK with in the jurisdiction of your Passport Office . You must carry original and self attested photocopy of your expired passport (even its not expired) and proof of your address.

    • No doubt it is a good step but a visit of police official is still there. Instead of this, there should be new column added to the passport application to consent for police verification. As per new provisions, police officials shall visit the residences off applicant and submit verification there on the spot. Once a police official get in touch with the applicant, there are all possibilities that official may create the compelling circumstances for applicants to surrender to their demands. The new rule should be that that official should not be allowed to get in touch with the applicant

  631. The passport rules are bitterly against the woman of india as after marriage they are not allowed to retain their surname by birth or surname of their father and mother as against the male persons.
    It should be challenged in the court as government cannot force a lady to remove her surname by birth.
    While PAN strictly allowed to retain father’s name but passport rules are made on the whimsical basis.
    Kindly provide a way to get out of the harassment.

    • new rules ke hisab se to koi problem nahi create karna chahiye unko, but fir bhi aap sabhi documents submit kare unique DOB wale . try again for passport. dob change karne ka certificate show kare unko SDM se certify wala.

    • We faced same problem and applied for correction in portal. This has gone to passport main office worli. After a year followup we got objection letter from passport office.again we went to worli office and submitted request letter with details and reason. And after further follow ups we got a mail from passport office to submit fine of 5000rs. After submission of fine we have received passport in 1 weeks time.

    • Google search “govt of india grievance redressal”, you will get a link to the gruevance redressal portal. Register your complaint giving full details. This portal is effective.

My age is 64 yrs complete. in 1996 a criminal case was registered by me on my neighbour and he did the same on me. since than he has never attended court. nor his advocate has come to court. He could manage to go out of india and has never come back till date and case is pending. I applied for renewal, as there was a case against me, I was asked to take consent of concerned judge and it took lot of time and headache to get consent as judge argued that you are not forbidden to go out of India why my consent for renewal of passport is required. You know our courts take lot of time . My passport was renewed for 10 yrs. In 2014. when I reapplied for renewal I was asked to take consent of concened judge for renewal who was not the same judge as they go on changing.. I took consent again with lot of headache to convince the judge as he told that as your passport is not detained by court why they want my consent. some how I took consent. my passport was renewed only for 1yr telling me that as judge has not mentioned for how many years it is to be renewed. I asked the judge to write the years of renewal but he told it is not my look out, it is look out of passport office. again in 2015 I reapplied for renewal of passport and judge is telling me that it is not our look out, as you are not forbbiden by court to go out of India nor for renew passport why you want our consent? Your application is use less better go to passport office and ask them to renew.passport office denies to renew without consent of judge. Guide me what to do? I am a doctor and require to go to different confernces in different countries.

  680. Removal of Notary attestation is such an excellent step, it removes curruption to some extent and does away with dubious attestations of all sorts of false hood.
    We have a big problem with address change in the records of a company in which we hold shares for more than 25 years.. They refuse to change the address under the pretext the signature does not tally with the one in their records.
    If the signature at the age of 25 does not tally with that at age 70, can that be a reason for not entering our new address in their records? We get the signature attested by our banker, But this is not honored by them. Why so?

    They have a wrong tool (signature of the share holder) to identify the person. Why did they not take finger prints or some biometric which does not change with time?
    Every time we ask for address change they ask us to send a fresh written request with umpteen documents.

    We don’t receive dividend cheques and other info from the company and we are put to lot of difficulty. Such practices that lead to harassment of public must be done away with. The companies must find alternatives.
    Notary removal and police verification removal are excellent steps. We welcome them

    We had hell lot of trouble with police verification because I offered a lower amount than the huge amount demanded by the constable who came for verification. That led to such troule I can’t forget in my life.

So i visited regional passport office and requested them to arrange a police revisit. while requesting i mentioned them about my mobile job status. but they hardly noticed my concern. while second visit i was at home. same police man visited my home. he clearly mentioned that he could not change his report which he had submitted previously. he mentioned that no one is approving that i stay here. i told him about the nature of my job. but he mentioned he cant help.
    now while visiting regional passport office second time the officer their out rightly told me that there is no such kind of job. he told assistant to close my file. I asked him to advise me how to proceed. he didn’t replied in anything.
    my question is how to proceed or what to do in this regard. please help if any body have been through such situations

  807. Simplification is a good move. The name of kids can also be added as some countries require one to prove that minor child is authorized person with you. Aadhaar number (which is National ID)should be printed on passport. In fact Passport number changes with each renewal. A passport ID be created & printed on Passport on renewal. Change of address now requires one to renew his passportt. In fact an online facility should be there to intimate change of address.

My vehicle accident occurred in 2010, which was compromised done in October 2013 and no punishment I was acquitted in the case of section 279 under 1 year peace maintain and ordered me to drive carefully which has been expired in October 2014, but in nearest police station is said that according to the rule you can not apply for next 5 years. I have verified my passport details 2 times and both the times police officers was sending my adverse report in the base of section 279 in this concern I want to know is there any Rule like this because i am very disappointed with this rule/low i want justice please help me.

  810. Public at large do not know as to what should be done with Passport of a dead person. Is it to be deposited some where or retained in home as it will auto expire after validity expires. In this type of situation, passport can be faked & misused.

  813. Dear Sir/Madam,

    I had applied for normal passport in the year 2016 and paid the fees for the same. Due to lack birth certificate at the time of original documents verification, I did not provide all the documents required. Now i have birth certificate which has been given by justice court.
    Is that appointment valid now…? Can u process with the same appointment No…..?

    Or else, Do I need to apply for fresh passport and need to pay the fees one more time….??
