New Rs 200 banknote ready to be released next month

RBI plans to boost its cash reservoir by pumping the new Rs 200 notes into the system.

After Rs 2000 notes, get ready for Rs 200 note in your wallet. Top level sources from the North Block have confirmed to India Today that the Reserve Bank of India will be releasing the new lower denomination note as soon as next month.



“We have already started printing of the first batch of 200 rupee note in June. It takes 21 days for the printing process to complete. So we are on track to meet the deadline to introduce 200 rupee note by next month,” said a top level source who is part of the Investment and Currency department of the government.

Interestingly, latest RBI data suggests that out of Rs 15 lakh worth of currency taken out of circulation almost Rs 14.5 lakh crore is back in circulation as of June this year. But as per an SBI report, cash with banks has declined to 5.4 per cent of the currency in circulation from 23.19 per cent pre-demonetisation. With 200 notes pumped in the system, the cash reservoir will be boosted.

“We are operating full capacity for 500 rupee note production. When 200 rupee note will be introduced it will ease out currency availability,” said top official from finance ministry.



It was in March when the finance ministry took the decision to print the lower denomination 200 rupee notes. Currently, two RBI printing press under Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited from Mysuru and Salboni are printing it. RBI has decided to add additional security layer to the new currency to check counterfeit. Quality checks have already been done on the new currency.

As lower denomination notes is floated to ease transaction, government is also preparing the gradual decline of 2000 rupee currency note which was introduced last year.

    • Best steps taken but it will be better if only denomination be 5,10, 15 , 25 , 50 , 100 , 200 and 500 only or one more denomination like 1000 is very good for all purpose and for all walk of life people and it will be good if coins like 50ps ,1,2 is sufficient and definitely no stock of BLACK MONEY and good day in come to life….

  29. Great news. Already Rs.2000 notes circulation are being controlled as experienced. Given the trend of past, looks like it is only a matter of time, when Rs.2000 notes vanishes from circulation. As somebody also commented “Intezar Khatam”.

    • Absolutely correct ! Traditionally, we have been a cash based economy and it is only in the cities that there is some amount of digitisation, which is a very small percentage.

  39. It is good to introduce ₹200 note. Try to make ₹2000 note demonetise as soon as possible and do not start ₹1000 note in leu of ₹2000 note. If it happened the problem will be same and people will not be using on line payments. Lower the denomination in circulation more probability to be people on online transactions. It will be difficult to hold crores of ₹ in safe for lower denomination notes. This will make the country online.

  45. Come out with new 100 Rs. Note which should be equal size in dimensions. Present 100Rs. Note is bigger than 500 Rs. Note.
    All notes be same size.

    RBI can introduce one ₹ coin as in middle portion blank n two rupee coin as square n five rupee coin as round all three coin same suiw n weight bt diffrent shape to eadily identify by public also by blind people.

    Hope Gvt immdly consider n impliment n withdraw then all old coins.

Best steps if taken in real estate registration value by decreasing the registration charges and go for full value for AGREEMENT then even we can achieve the best of all purpose I believe it will be better and very good for all purpose and for all walk of life people and it will be good definitely no stock of BLACK MONEY transaction

    • If somehow all property related transection can be made transparent,it will benefit Indian economy da most and will break da backbone of Black MONEY.

    Expedite with drawal of 2000 note this will unearth money from lockers
    Pl also increase circulation of Rs5& 10 more .By this we can control money transactions
    No Marwadi Gujarati accepting credit cards on kirana & grain stores

  51. Dear Indian government , release any denomination of ur choice whichever comfort our ppl. But make ATM withdrawals home branch 10 time to swipe n non branch atlest 5times in one month to avoid tax deduction if possible…

  52. After the introduction of Rs 200 note, gradually government should withdraw Rs 2000 notes as well as Rs 100 old notes and simultaneously introduce Rs 100 new notes. This will help in dealing with black money and currency dumping habit of cash transactors, it keeps them in fear of any time repetition of 8th November move by the government.

  53. Rs.200 is best move. It is comfortable. But the color different between 500 & 200 is not much.
    It is hardly to differenciate. RBI should think & change the color.

  54. After the introduction of 200 banknote. the govt may withdraw 2000/- banknotes from circulation to flush out the black money and to avoid the difference of 200 & 2000 bank notes as the blind men may not be able to findout.

    There should be no banknote more then Rs. 100/-. we see in shopping malls they just round off figure and keep the changes so the banknote denominations should be 1,2,5,10,20,50 and 100 only. Govt should also start coins of 1,2, 5,10,20,50 and 100.

    following benefit we will enjoy.

    1. People will forced to not to use cash.
    2. Govt. will needs to print new banknotes only for replacements
    3. since cash will be less in use there will reduction in terror funding and other bribe cases

      One side PM insisting to use digital payment and another side bigg notes coming in market .
      I think government is in full mood to support black money holders,
      Because they have no shortage place. so 1st they lonch 2000.notes and now 200 .

  60. A currency is batter commincation between person to person and king to queen for peace in there living style of life. What ever it may be Books, clothes, substances and currency of INDIAN people. So it is a really currency Independence in our total world life and Indian life.

    But make same size of Note as well as 500 size

  75. As one Bhatia above has suggested, 100″rupee note must be of equal size with 500 notes.
    Coins must be of different shapes like 2 annas, one Anna of olden days, prior to 1957.
    This could be easier for identifying it even by the impaired.

    We need to control 2000 Rs note.
    Need some action plan on Kirana store as they are still charging 2% on final charge. To improve the cash less process we need to remove all such charges from different sector.

  77. Registry charges should be taken to absolutely low percentage, may be 2%, which will ensure that true value of the land/property is written on the documents. Finally Govt will get the same amount as the blackmoney proportion in land deals is very high.
    And demonetise 2000 rupee notes and if possible 500 rupee notes also. Then it will be very difficult to carry a few crores of blackmoney from one place to the other.

  84. A good move by PM by introducing Rs.200/- denomination. The sizes of the notes should be synchronized from lower to upper denominations. Rs. 2000/- denomination should be demonized without giving much time to deposit in banks. Digital seva should be popularized among the larger section of population to ensure a cashless transaction.

  87. Decline in the currency notes with the Banking system from pre de-monitisation level indicates hoarding Rs. 2000 notes in large quantities. Therefore the RBI should withdraw the Rs.2000/- notes in planned manner and eventually demonitise it. Further, the transactions through banks and digital mode must be made more affordable. If the governments subsidises the cost of digital payments, it can be made more popular and affordable for the common man. Digital transactions should eventually help RBI reduce printing new notes and that savings can be passed on to the common man for subsidising the cost of transactions through banks and digital modes.

  88. Introduction of notes of RS 200 most welcome.and withdrawing RS2000 DN should be done by stopping it in circulation and advising banks remit back to RBI by collecting from public .No more fresh printing .
