Now the Himachal Pradesh government is also going to start the old pension scheme. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has announced that a committee will be constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Ram Subag Singh to restore the old pension scheme in the state.
He made this announcement in the Legislative Assembly while replying to the Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s Address. Jai Ram said that his government is working for the welfare of the employees.
The old pension scheme for government employees in the country was discontinued from 1 April 2004 and the new National Pension System (NPS) was implemented.
In a major announcement in its budget, the Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government decided to implement the old pension scheme from the next financial year for all employees appointed on or after January 1, 2004.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said that there is no plan to consider any proposal to bring back the old pension scheme for state government employees who joined service on or after January 1, 2004.
The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS), an umbrella body of over 14 lakh central and state government employees, recently wrote to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for NPS Amendments.
