Apart from the central government, the Congress governments of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have given orders to re-implement the old pension of the state government employees only in the midst of the assembly elections of five states including Uttar Pradesh
However, the pressure from the employees on the Center and BJP ruled states has increased. The demand of the employees to restore the old pension scheme is very old. After the decision of two Congress governments, now this demand is likely to gain more momentum.
These states have implemented the old scheme
After the implementation of the old pension scheme by the Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh government, the Chhattisgarh government has also given the old pension scheme to the government employee. After the announcement of CM, old pension will be implemented in Chhattisgarh.
If this happens, more than 3 lakh government employees appointed after January 1, 2004 will get the benefit. Government employees across the country have been demanding for a long time for the restoration of old pension.
New pension reduced the burden of the central government
The objective of implementing the new pension scheme was to eliminate the burden of pension payment from the shoulders of the government in the coming years.
So far the Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand governments have announced to restore the old pension scheme. The old pension scheme for government employees in the country was discontinued from 1 April 2004 and the new National Pension System (NPS) was implemented.
