iOS 17 NameDrop feature: Police has recently issued a warning for iPhone users. If you also use iPhone then know about it immediately.

iOS 17 NameDrop Feature: Apple introduced the innovative ‘Name Drop’ feature in the iOS 17 update, which aimed to ease contact sharing between iPhone users. However, the City of Chester Police Department in Pennsylvania has issued an alert in a recent alert, suggesting the potential risks associated with the use of AirDrop.

The alert states that Name Drop is on by default on the phone, which allows sharing of contact details simply by bringing the phone closer. Which is raising many questions on privacy and security.

Some social media users have claimed that as soon as they updated their iPhone with the latest iOS 17, their contacts get shared as soon as they bring the phone close, because the NameDrop feature is on by default in the phone. Regarding the NameDrop feature, the police has issued an alert especially for those whose children use iPhone. However, to avoid this you will have to change just one setting. Let us know about this also.

How to turn off NameDrop feature?

If you also do not want your contact details to be shared as soon as the phone comes near, then for this you will have to make some changes in the settings. Let us know about it step by step.

  • To turn off NameDrop feature, first go to iPhone’s Settings.
  • Scroll down to Settings and go to General option
  • Here you will see AirDrop if you scroll a bit, tap on it.
  • Inside the AirDrop option, you will see the option of Bringing Devices Together.
  • This toggle will be on by default, you just have to turn it off.
  • By doing this your NameDrop feature will be turned off.
  • You can also turn this setting back on whenever you want.

This feature does not work in all phones

Please note that not all iPhones and Apple Watches support AirDrop. To use this feature, your phone must be on iOS 17.1 or later, which includes iPhone XR and newer models. This feature is included in the second and third generation iPhone SE, till the latest iPhone 15 series.
