After commercial banks refused to accept Rs 2,000 notes, now long queues of people are forming outside the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). People are still facing problems in depositing and exchanging Rs 2,000 notes. The situation is such that people have taken leave from their work and office and are standing in queue outside RBI since 6 in the morning.
Long queues of people are seen outside RBI. According to media reports, people not only from Delhi but from UP to Haryana are reaching here. Let us tell you that after banks stopped accepting Rs 2,000 notes, people are now reaching RBI to exchange the notes.
People standing in line since morning-
The queues outside RBI are so long that even after standing in the queue from morning till evening, many people are not able to exchange their notes. The number of people standing in line from 6:30 in the morning is coming down around 12 noon. Let us tell you that on May 19, the government had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation. The central bank had given time till September 30 to exchange these notes from bank branches or deposit them in bank accounts.
The deadline was 7th October-
After this it was increased to October 7. After this, the facilities for depositing or exchanging these notes were stopped in bank branches. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das had recently said that Rs 2,000 notes worth a total of Rs 3.43 lakh crore have been returned. He had told that such notes worth about Rs 12,000 crore are still in circulation.
