Retirement Age Update:Responding to the question of the Lok Sabha MP, Singh said that 122 government officials have been given compulsory retirement in the last three years (2020-2023) under different provisions of the service rule.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Pensions and Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh said that there is no proposal before the government to increase the retirement age of central employees. Lok Sabha MP Sharmistha Sethi asked the Prime Minister, who holds the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, whether there is any proposal to increase the retirement age of central employees. The question was also asked to the Prime Minister that how many government employees have been forced to retire in the last three years under Rule 56(j)? Answering this question, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office said that according to the data provided by different ministries and departments till June 30, 2023, according to the probity portal, between 2020-23 in which this year Total 122 officers have also been compulsorily retired under 56(j) rule.
Singh said that the purpose of the review process of 56(j) is to strengthen the administrative machinery.
