Rs 2000 Note Update: Reserve Bank of India has informed by tweeting that Rs 2000 notes are still legal tender and you can exchange them.

Rs 2000 Note Update: A big decision was taken by the Reserve Bank of India last few months, under which people were asked to return Rs 2000 notes. Under the announcement of RBI, Rs 2000 note was taken out of circulation. Since then, the process of returning and exchanging Rs 2000 notes was going on in the country. During this period, the last date for depositing Rs 2000 notes was changed several times, but still there are some people who have not been able to deposit Rs 2000 notes.

More than 97% of Rs 2000 notes returned to banks

RBI has given information by tweeting from its official Twitter account that how many Rs 2000 notes have been returned to them. According to the press release issued in the tweet, more than 97 percent of Rs 2000 notes have been returned to RBI. According to RBI, out of the Rs 2,000 notes in circulation, 97.26 percent have returned to the bank.

Now there are so many Rs 2000 notes in circulation

RBI had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2 thousand notes on 19 May 2023. This decision is being linked to demonetization and is being known as mini demonetization. According to the bank, the value of circulation notes of Rs 2 thousand was Rs 3.56 lakh crore. Whereas, till the last date of deposit of notes, 30 November 2023, the value of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation was only Rs 9,760 crore.

Where are Rs 2000 notes still being deposited?

If you currently have Rs 2,000 notes, you can deposit them in the postal department. With your information, the postal department will deliver the Rs 2000 notes deposited by you along with your details to the RBI office. After the verification process is completed, money will be transferred to your bank in exchange for Rs 2000.

2000 notes were issued after demonetization

In the year 2016, Rs 1000 note was demonetized in the country. After Rs 1,000 note was taken out of circulation, Rs 2,000 note was introduced in the market, which the government has now started taking back from the people to remove it. According to the data, till now about 97 percent of Rs 2000 notes have been returned to the banking system.
