In the European Union, Apple will stop selling iPhone 14, 14 Plus and SE 3rd generation with Lightning Connector from December 28. According to EU rules, only phones with USB-C port can be sold.

After the next few days, Apple will not be able to sell its 3 iPhone models in the European Union (EU). The company will stop selling iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone SE 3rd generation in Europe from December 28. All these phones come with Lightning connector and according to European rules, the sale of phones with such connector will be banned from next year. In view of this, Apple is stopping their sale in all 27 countries of Europe from December 28.

What do Europe’s rules say?

The EU decided in 2022 that phones and some other gadgets sold in all its 27 countries will be required to have USB-C port. This decision was taken to reduce electronic waste. When this proposal was brought, Apple challenged it, but in 2023 it launched the iPhone 15 with USB-C port. Similarly, Apple has gradually started providing USB-C port in all its iPads.

Sales may stop earlier in Switzerland

Their sales in Switzerland may stop from December 20 itself. Although Switzerland is not a part of Europe, many of its laws are similar to the EU. Apart from Europe and Switzerland, this decision will also have an effect in Northern Ireland and the sale of these three models will stop here too.

Sales will continue in India

This decision will have no effect in India and the sale of iPhone 14 will continue here. They can be purchased from online or offline stores. The Government of India is also considering bringing rules regarding USB-C port. There are reports that from June next year, USB-C port will be made mandatory for new smartphones and tablets in India as well. This rule is also being said to be applicable for laptops from 2026.
