The Government of Karnataka has taken a big decision in the interest of the students. The state government has issued new guidelines regarding the weight of school bags of students. According to the new instructions, now the weight of the children’s school bag should not exceed 15 percent of the child’s own weight.

School Education Department issued circular

In fact, the Department of School Education and Literacy re-issued its 2019 circular urging schools in the state to follow the school bag guidelines. The same block level education officers have been asked to strictly ensure its implementation of the order. According to the guidelines issued, the maximum permissible weight of the school bag should not exceed 15 percent of the weight of the student. The weight of the bag for class 1-2 children should be 1.5 to 2 kg and the weight of the bag for class 3-5 children should be 2 to 3 kg. The same should be 3 to 4 kg for class 6 to 8 and 4 to 5 kg for class 9 to 10. Apart from this, schools should celebrate ‘No Bag Day’ once a week, it can be celebrated on a Saturday.
