Sim Card New Rule: The government is bringing new rules to stop the sale of fake SIM cards in the country. Under these, SIM card sellers will have to get themselves registered. If they do not do so, they will not be able to sell SIMs.

Sim Card New Rule: The rules for SIM card sales are going to change in the country from April 1. After April 1, dealers without registration will not be able to sell SIM cards. If they are found doing so, they can be blacklisted and may also have to pay a fine. The Department of Telecommunications has asked the franchisees, distributors and agents of all mobile companies to get registered immediately.

Efforts to stop fake SIM cards

The government has been trying to stop the sale of fake SIM cards for a long time. In this effort, registration of SIM card dealers was made mandatory. In August 2023, the government had asked all agents, distributors and franchisees to get themselves registered, keeping its deadline at 12 months. This deadline has been extended several times and at present it has been extended till March 31.

BSNL is taking more time

Private companies providing telecom services in the country have registered their agents and distributors, but the government company BSNL is taking time. The company had sought time from the government citing problems in its software. After this, the deadline was extended.

New rules will be implemented from April 1

New rules for SIM card sales will start from April 1 and only registered dealers will be able to sell new SIM cards. This is expected to reduce the sale of fake SIM cards. Under the rules, there will be a written agreement between the telecom company and its SIM card selling agents and dealers etc. If a person is found selling SIM cards in violation of the rules, he will be blacklisted. Apart from this, a fine can also be imposed on him. In some places like Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, police verification of these SIM card sellers has been made mandatory.
