New Delhi, Tech Desk. Popular microblogging platform Twitter has decided to shut down its SMS based Twitter Via SMS tweeting service. Users will no longer be able to tweet via SMS. Let us tell you that Twitter started this service in 2010. Through this service, users could tweet 140 characters even without logging into their account. The company has given official information about it.

The company spokesperson issued a statement saying, ‘ We want to keep the account of the users safe. We have seen that many kinds of disturbances have been found through SMS. We shared information regarding this in September last year. We have shut down our SMS based Tweet service (except in some countries). If you were using Twitter via SMS, then we would like to tell you that you will be able to use it through website and mobile app. We have denied access to the SMS service required to manage accounts for all users.

Twitter has also tweeted about this from its official support handle. Let me tell you that last year, the account of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was hacked. The hacker hacked the account using the Twitter Via SMS feature. After which the company has decided to shut down this feature. In which countries Twitter’s service has been shut down and will continue in which countries, no information has been received through the company spokesperson nor support.

The benefit of Twitter Via SMS service is especially for those users who use microblogging service even without internet. This feature is beneficial for areas where Internet service is not available. Hill area where mobile network is there but internet connectivity is not that much better, there users can communicate through this service.
