Inflation is putting a question mark on the success of the central government’s ambitious Ujjwala Yojana. 

Due to the rising prices of LPG cylinder, many beneficiaries are unable to get the gas cylinder filled. Some have even sold their cylinders and stoves.

Due to the cost of cooking gas, a question mark has been put on the success of the central government’s Ujjwala Yojana. There are reports from across the country that the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana have stopped filling cylinders due to the increase in the price of domestic gas. In rural areas, these beneficiaries have again started cooking with conventional fuel.

There are 13,000 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Bisrampur block of Palamu district of Jharkhand. But, now most of them have stopped filling the gas cylinders found in this scheme. The reason for this is the huge increase in gas prices. At present, the price of domestic gas cylinder in Bisrampur is Rs 1007.

According to a report in The Times of India, troubled by expensive gas

, HP Gas dealer Dayashankar Dubey says that it has become difficult for people to continue their business due to the closure of gas cylinders. It is also becoming difficult for them to pay salaries to the employees. Dubey says that many people have also sold their gas cylinders and gas stoves. Sangeeta Devi, a Ujjwala beneficiary of Kadar village, says that the price of gas has increased so much that it is not possible for them to refill the gas cylinder.

The situation in the cities is not good

under the Ujjwala scheme in Palamu district, 2,20,234 people were given gas cylinders till 2020. In the year 2020 and 2021, no new registration was done in the district under this scheme. The condition of this Ujjwala scheme is not good in villages as well as in cities.

Awadh Kumar Pandey, who is engaged in the work of distributing LPG cylinders in urban areas, says that he has 400 Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, but now none of them are getting gas cylinders filled.

Awadh Kumar says that many of these people have even sold their cylinders and gas stoves. At the same time, the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana in Hazaribagh have now started cooking again with coal. Alok Bihari Dixit, operator of HP Gas Agency, says that he has 6300 Ujjwala gas connections. Now 40 percent of them have stopped filling gas.
