The Transport Department of Delhi has canceled the registration of more than 54 lakh vehicles which have crossed the period of operation. These include autorickshaws, cabs and two-wheelers.
Delhi news: The Transport Department of Delhi has canceled the registration of more than 54 lakh vehicles which have crossed the period of operation till March 27. These include autorickshaws, cabs and two-wheelers. According to the department, the vehicles whose registration has been canceled include some vehicles which were registered in the years 1900 and 1901. The Supreme Court had banned 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol vehicles in Delhi in the year 2018. There were 79.18 lakh vehicles registered on the roads of Delhi in 2021-22.
This decision has been taken by the Indian government that the vehicles which are out of date, and pollute, want to discontinue them. The aim of this initiative is to reduce pollution and maintain a clean environment for the people of the country. The decision has probably been taken due to the implementation of transparency norms for older vehicles and newer and more stringent pollution control regulations. This will reduce traffic at places, help citizens focus on purchasing new vehicles and help reduce pollution.
Supreme Court ban on 10-15 year old vehicles
In the year 2018, the Supreme Court had banned diesel and petrol vehicles which were 10 years and 15 years old respectively in Delhi. The court had said that vehicles violating the order should be confiscated. The 2014 order of the National Green Tribunal prohibited parking of vehicles older than 15 years at public places.
This was a very important decision, due to which efforts are being made to improve the air quality of Delhi. This decision is an important step in pollution control, which can prevent climate change due to the use of old and junk vehicles. This is a step which is an important initiative for pollution control. This decision will compel the vehicle owners to take care of the age and manufacturing date of their vehicles and this may reduce the pollution level.
Maximum registration of vehicles canceled in South Delhi
According to the Transport Department, the maximum number of vehicle registrations have been canceled in South Delhi Part One. There, the registration of 9,285 three-wheelers and 25,167 cabs was canceled till March 27. 2,90,127 vehicles in Mall Road Zone, 3,27,034 vehicles in IP Depot, 9,99,999 vehicles in South Delhi Part One, 1,1,69,784 vehicles in South Delhi Part II, 2, 7,06,921 vehicles in Loni, Janakpuri 4,35,408 vehicles, 4,96,086 vehicles in Sarai Kale Khan, 2,99,788 vehicles in Mayur Vihar, 1,65,048 vehicles in Wazirpur, 3,04,677 in Dwarka, 25,167 in Burari, 1,95,626 vehicles in Rajagarden and 6 in Rohini zone. Registration of 56,201 vehicles was cancelled.
The campaign was started from March 29
The Transport Department had started a campaign on March 29 to send the vehicles that have completed their operational period to the scrap. Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra said, “There is a request to obtain NOC (No Objection Certificate) for out of date vehicles and sell them in the state where they are fit to run (operate). If these vehicles are found standing on the roads here, there is a danger of them being given to junk. 79.18 lakh vehicles were registered on the roads of Delhi in 2021-22.
