There is good news for those running WhatsApp on desktop and laptop. A cool feature related to photo-video has made a comeback on the web. However, there are many types of features in WhatsApp which meet the different needs of different users. One such feature is View Once,
which lets users share media files that they want to show only once. It used to be available on all major platforms till November 2022, but then the company decided to remove it from web and desktop apps. Now, it seems like the feature is coming back as some desktop users have noticed it after a recent update.
View Once returns to WhatsApp Web and desktop
WABetaInfo, a site that tracks new features of WhatsApp, said in its report that some WhatsApp web and desktop app users have seen the View Once feature working for them in recent times. It became available to them after the latest desktop app update and web version became available on both Windows and macOS devices.
To check if this feature is available for you, you need to log in to your WhatsApp account on the web or desktop app. Open any individual or group conversation and share a photo or video. In the interface where you get the option to add media captions, you should see a “1” icon on the right side. Clicking this icon will activate the view once mode for that specific media file.
Let us tell you that View Once is a WhatsApp feature which allows users to send such photos and videos which they want to show only once. This means that the receiver can view the shared media file by opening it only once. This is different from standard media file sharing, where receivers can view media files whenever they want.
View Once does not have a screenshot-proof feature
One thing to keep in mind is that View Once is not a screenshot-proof feature. That means the receiver can take a screenshot of it, which adds privacy risk. Additionally, WhatsApp does not have support for letting users know whether someone has taken a screenshot or not. If you want to use View Once to share sensitive media files, be aware of all the risks involved.
Screen lock comes on WhatsApp Web
WhatsApp Web has recently got another new feature related to privacy. The team added support for adding a screen lock on the web. This password will prevent unauthorized access to your WhatsApp account, chats and other personal details on web and desktop apps. This privacy feature has been present on smartphone apps for a long time.zEmail
address verification coming on WhatsApp
The team is also working on adding email address verification for WhatsApp accounts. This new feature will provide users with an additional way to verify themselves, which is different from mobile numbers. WhatsApp says that your email address will not be visible to others. It should be noted that phone numbers will continue to be the primary method of verifying users.
