WhatsApp users beware, the company itself has given a big warning; do not ignore the danger

WhatsApp has confirmed a serious security bug for Windows users, which can benefit cyber attackers. Attackers can gain access to the device with the help of specially designed files.

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has crores of users and now the company itself is giving them a big warning related to cyber crime. A critical bug is present in a version of the app, which can be exploited by cyber criminals. In this way, users are in danger and control of their device can go to the attackers. The Government of India has also issued a warning regarding this flaw.

Cyber Security News has reported in its report that the bug has affected all Windows app versions of WhatsApp. However, it has been fixed on Whatsapp for Windows version 2.2450.6. In such a situation, if you use WhatsApp while connecting to your Android or iOS device, then you should be careful and update the app to the latest version.

Attack with the help of special files

The security bug in the app has been tracked as CVE-2025-30401. This bug has been found in those versions of WhatsApp which are earlier than version 2.2450.6. With this flaw, attackers can target users by sending specially crafted files, which can cause them to unknowingly execute dangerous code. This problem occurs due to a flaw between MIME type and file name extension, due to which the application handles the file incorrectly.

You may suffer a big loss

If the flaw is exploited by the attacker, then he can run malicious code on the user’s system, which can easily lead to theft of personal information or complete control over the device. According to experts, this threat can be more serious especially in group chats, where this attack can be done with the help of shared images.

Users are advised to update their WhatsApp to the latest version on Windows as soon as possible. Apart from this, the app should always be kept updated on different devices as well, so that the benefits of the latest features can be availed while remaining safe.
