The estimated cost of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is Rs 1.10 lakh crore, of which Rs 88,000 crore is being given by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). In Maharashtra, 70 per cent of the land required for the project has been acquired in Thane and Palghar districts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe laid the foundation stone of the bullet train project in Ahmedabad in September 2017. The train can cover a distance of more than 500 km in two hours.
