3.16 lakh candidates placed under government employment scheme



Since the time, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) (2016-20), the flagship scheme introduced by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) registered 3,16,671 successful placements as on February 2018. With nearly 55% successful placements, the Short-Term Training Program (STT) under PMKY as a part of government employment scheme, has successfully trained approximately 13 lakh candidates, out of which 9 lakhs have been certified till February 2018. Placements have been made provision for close to 5.98 lakh applicants who were certified by the end of November last year.

There are two types of categorisation for placements under the PMKVY as a part of government employment scheme – wage and self-employment. Close to 76% of the candidates have been placed in wage employment and 24% placed in self-employment/ entrepreneurship. 80% of the people placed in wage employment across various sectors such as electronics and hardware, retail, telecom, beauty and wellness, agriculture, security, apparel, logistics, leather, textiles and handlooms.

“The program is closely associated with the industry requirement of a workforce which is ready for the job. Self-employed candidates are supported to take Mudra Loans through the UdyamiMitra Portal. Currently there are over 10,000 loan applications for this purpose,” he added.



The biggest ever training and certification program of the Government of India, the PMKVY (2016-20) was launched with an outlay of Rs. 12,000 crores in November 2016. The aim of the program is to skill one crore youth by 2020. So far over 13 lakh candidates have been trained under its two different programs – Short Term Trainings and Special Projects.

The STT program of PMKVY, provided through the National Skill Development Corporation’s (NSDC) approved training centres, is aimed at benefitting youth who are either dropouts from school/college or have no jobs with them. Apart from skills training, the program offers training in soft skills, financial, entrepreneurship and digital education. The program offers 200 – 1,000 hours of skill training, is designed to suit various job roles.

  5. I have gone through the website of PMKVY and surprised to found that there are no training centres for most of the skill jobs as specified therein, in Mumbai. May I please have a clarification in the matter ?

  62. It’s all are fake all this 12000 crore gone waste, I have been training in PMKVY, it was completed on 6 Feb 2017 but till now there is not any exam and they given to me any certificate and placement. I was wasted time there and all my batch mate.

  169. AM AN UNEMPLOYEE. I have completed ITI (sheetmetal worker) with NAC in HAL, BLR(1st Class). I HAVE CLEARED THE GOVT EXAMs 4 times conducted by HAL(3 TIMES) and NAL once.
    But at the final stage I was cheated because there is value for only money and recommendation not for knowledge & skill.

    But at NAL in 2015 I was the top candidate from trade test till theory. But when the final result was declared I was under wait list. Appointment letter was given to the state GOVT employed person again through recommendation who was from my native.

    Why are you giving employment opportunity again n again to the GOVT employee who are already settled. Turn towards the skilful and unemployed also.

    I am a Home Science degree holder, i have completed it in University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, It is a four years degree programme, where it is called as proffessional course and we dont find a single job for ourselves.N we learn all the disciplines in the Home Science i.e. Food science and nutrition, Human development and family studies, extension and communication management, family resource management and textiles apparel designing n even we have touch with all the agricultural subjects, still we dont find any kind of value for our degree…..Am also doing my specialization in MSc (FOODS & NUTRITION), till i dont find any jobs, then whats the use of all this courses in INDIA?????     So the answer from our prime minister is that making and selling pakoda is also a form of self employed……So what is the reason to do expensive and taking course which we have to take education loan for that…….So my point of view no need of doing any course..
