However, lakhs of government employees of Rajasthan are going to get a big gift from April 1. On which the process of implementation has also started.

Taking another step towards re-implementing the old pension scheme (OPS) in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced to eliminate 10 per cent deduction from the basic salary of state government employees from April 1.

The Chief Minister said that under the New Pension Scheme (NPS), 10 percent of the basic salary of the recruited employees was deducted every month from January 2004, which would be abolished from the next month.

At the same time, after adjusting the amount deducted so far in the Pensioner’s Medical Fund in RGHS, the balance amount will be returned along with interest at the time of retirement.

Replying to the debate on the Appropriation Bill in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday, he said that the employees will get the increased salary from April 1. By eliminating this deduction, every employee will get an increased salary with an amount between Rs 2,000 and Rs 10,000 per month.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had announced to implement the old pension scheme from April 1 this year by abolishing the new pension scheme applicable to the employees recruited in the year 2004 and after that in the state budget.

In the new pension scheme, 10 percent of the basic salary of the employee was being deducted for NPS. This announcement will directly benefit about 5.50 lakh employees of the Rajasthan government.

It is noteworthy that the old pension system was abolished in December 2003 by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government and in its place the new pension system was implemented from 1 April 2004.
