Aadhaar made compulsory for post office deposits, PPF, KVP; last date December 31

After bank deposits, mobile and various welfare schemes, the 12-digit Aadhaar number has been made necessary for all post office deposits, PPF, the National Savings Certificate scheme and Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP). The recent step by the government is an extension to push the importance of Aadhaar. Deadline for people to provide the 12-digit unique identification number is December 31, 2017.

Ministry of Finance in four separate Gazette notifications made the announcement regarding Aadhaar. Notification dated September 29 said “if Aadhaar number has not been assigned, the depositor shall present proof of application of enrolment for the same.”

Also, it was made clear that “existing depositors who have not submitted Aadhaar number at the time of application for such deposit are required to submit their Aadhaar number to the post office savings bank or deposit office concerned, on or before the deadline i.e December 31, 2017.”

The government is constantly being pushing for Aadhaar and has made it compulsory for bank deposits, obtaining mobile phone and several government schemes. In fact, an extended on the deadline for obtaining Aadhaar for availing government schemes and subsidies has been shifted from September 30 to December 31.

“As a result of the review of welfare schemes covered and to provide the benefits of such schemes to all eligible beneficiaries, an extension has been decided for the stipulated date in all such notifications up to December 31, 2017,” an order dated September 26 said.

The extension remains the same for Employees under Employees’ Pension Scheme of 1995 and students willing to avail scholarships besides enrolling for national apprenticeship, crop insurance schemes, skill development schemes and Atal Pension Yojana.

“It is hereby made clear that this extension shall only apply to those beneficiaries who have not yet enrolled for Aadhaar or who are not assigned Aadhaar number. Such beneficiaries are required to enroll for Aadhaar by December 31, 2017and provide their Aadhaar number or enrolment ID,” it had stated.

It must be noted that after government made it mandatory to link 12-digit Aadhaar issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), many telecom operators including Idea, Airtel and Vodafone have been informing its customers for linking their Aadhaar with phone number. Even banks have been doing the same and asking customers to link their Aadhaar numbers with bank accounts to avoid making them in operational.

  1. Dear Concerned Authority,
There are many persons coming from neighboring country e. g. Nepal who do not require visa to work in India and do not have Adhar Cards. How will they operate their bank accounts and obtain mobile SIM Cards after 31st of December 2017? Please give concrete answer to them.

    Thanks & Regards.

    • There are already several questions posed here which are not answered. Why should I add to that burden? Our IAS Officers are notoriuous Kumbhakarnas while in office. Mr. Modi may be honest , but the modern Maharajas (I mean the IAS officers) care two hoots for any quetion from any citizen!

    • Aadhaar authenticity is still in question then why govt., is insisting public to pull their legs down in connecting with key personal documents of an individual.
So far from the side of Govt., not proved Aadhaar is a must , still we are all awaiting for the court verdict. Aadhaar is a personal issue of an individual Govt., does not have the business of peep into this with its heavy arms.
If there is no individual freedom in Aadhaar then no point in calling India is an ……..society. China is better in this case. Slowly imposing their intention and unwanted policy with geneal public.

Lot of problems we are facing while entering or linking aadhaar with PF account for UAN concept.

If UAN not created then the concern employee could not be allowed to create UAN and pay his contribution.

If the contributions are not paid in time the Govt., PF department will impose interest and damages for unpaid PF contributions of an individual.

Therefore its an indirect income to the Govt., without proper guidence to general public in those cases what they have to do. No details provided all they said simply Aadhaar is necessary. Even officials also not aware under such circumstances what they have todo. Its sheer mistake of the Govt., it has to educate or publish notifications under such circumstances what they have todo.

    • You can produce copy of your birth certificate, Pass port ,School or college TC to Aadhar authority ( Regional Aadhar centres at Bangalore,Hyderabad etc) and get corrected.

  2. These deadlines never take into account unsupported Sr. citizen, who otherwise were exempt (or PAN was sufficient); or Has only NRI staying abroad as dependent?

  3. Why it’s mandatory to every citizen of country and what is logic to update Adhar No those who are not getting benefit various scheme, for getting benefits schemes I can understand for everyone it is not justified

  4. If government has made Aadhar compulsory, They should provde name addresses phone nos. of Aadhar kendras from where we can get aadhar cards. Google search does not provide proper information.

  5. What about Super Senior citizens who are more than 80 year’s and don’t have Adhaar & it’s not possible them to take Aadhaar Card,u may know that your computer where Aadhaar card is made cannot read proper there Eyes & Finger prints.

  6. It is an excellent move by the GOI as there are innumerable number of ineligible people are availing benefits of Govt. various schemes.

  7. I dont understand this crazy Adhar for all things under the sun.Has the big shots done this already to their accounts. Why not link Adhar to voting machines to prevent false votes as it happened in UP elections…

    • yes …….. this one is Right . why they dont firstly link Voting to all indian & NRI Also . after that link with all other ………….

  8. If you need aadhaar no every where, then make such arrangement to give aadhaar no to all. Verbal order is not sufficient. work hard. Then only, every one will get aadhaar no.

  9. Why government is not compelling people to link Aadhaar Card to their Voter ID. Is this to facilitate the political parties to enjoy fake votes? People should link Aadhaar No to everything and stand together protesting that “We will not vote” until Aadhaar is linked to Voter ID. Will EC take a note of this and make necessary steps, so that they can prevent fake voting.

  10. I have been told that NO IS can not get aadhar cards since even though they are indian origins but citizens of
Other country. How are they suppose to have or keep their mobil phone, lpg connection and NRO /NRE accounts ?

  11. How important is Adhar card for NRIs and foreign citizens of Indian origin having local accounts and NRE and NRI accounts. How do they obtain an Adhar card if they are not staying in india for more than two weeks. Please explain

  12. i have started the PPF account in kakinada on 2005, i left kakinada and now at Trichy – tamil nadu. I can’t go to kakinada for update the aadar details. pl let me know how can i update the same.

  13. I also agree that if Aadhar is that foolproof for documentation, it should be linked to Voter ID card. This is as important, if not more, for ensuring that only genuine citizens are enrolled as voters.

  14. u r making aadhaar no compulsory, but after submitting correction of my DOB ur not issuing fresh/new aadhaar card inspite of submitting my DOB correction ( with documents) & after lodging complain several times, why? Bloody, u r not replying also, & making AAdhaar compulsory.

  15. Govt .takes out notifications to link aadhaar with PPF accounts…but banks clueless on this.Wasted my time going to bank. The right arm does not know what the left arm is doing!

    • This linking execution is going to be worst than demonitisation and GST
FMinistry needs to take a step back and put all elements in place before issuing orders.

  16. government wants to make compulsory aadhar for everything, but do not want to take the responsibility of security of data.the data of aadhar till today, with a private company.

  17. The proposal of the Government may be rational. But then what is the intention for not linking aadhar with electoral roll?
If Government think that only the genuine Indians having aadhar will only be extended the benefit of all system, then what is the reason for not linking it with election process? If it is linked then only the genuine Indians will select their leaders and there will be no CHHAPPA vote or rigging etc.

This is something funny and bizarre proposition

  18. Why someone getting so upset, when Govt wants them to have a proper identity card. All NRIs are taking ids from their countries of residence without any objection, when they are working in foreign countries.
Adar cars is very much helpful in many ways for straightforward people.
As pensioner, earlier I had to go to bank for providing life certificate . Now I can do it with my mobile from anywhere in the world. I can activate my new SIM card within minutes from anywhere.
    Many other benefits too

  19. What about whose son and daughters after attaining 27.years in India but now NRI for last 10 years filling every year their IT return on earnings from their assets such as shares, rent of home, royalty of books etc. in India and getting back their refunds in their bank account? How their bank account will be retained as they do not have Aadhar and neither it can be formed. No doubt Aadhar is a good proposal but NRI should be exempted.

  20. My daughter has opened a PPF account in a nationalised bank prior to her marriage. she has continued the minimum investment required i.e. Rs.1000 per year & not claiming any IT deductions for the same. However, whatever she has invested prior to her marriage, she wants to continue in her maiden name. She also wants to avoid the cumbersome procedure to change her maiden name for the PPF account. It is also experienced that the nationalised bank is not properly cooperating or avoid the work, as the amount invested is being utilised by GOI & the banks are not getting benefit for maintaining such accounts. Moreover, law also does not insist to change the identity of the any female member of the society on getting married. In the circumstances how she can provide her Aadhar No. which mentions her new name after getting married.

  21. Dear sir,

Please let me know where is the center or office, where I could go change my date of birth in Aadhar card. Please help me out

  22. Govt is really concerned on each and every activities of common
man. It’s good. Appriciated. But their first objective should have to link Aadhaar number with EVMs.

  23. Till date Supreme Court do not decide on Aadhar issue how govt can issue notification it appears they care hoot for Supreme Court and do what they want to do . Aadhar was created for different purpose now under various guys they want your personal data which still to day is secret as per constitution . Let govt wait till decision by court and than issue notification nor it will be dictatership in guise of democracy

  24. I have been able to link all the accounts with Adhar. However I am unable to link my PPF. I have made several attempts by visiting the bank to do the same. I am informed by the bank that-
    (A) The banks software is unable to undertake the task
    (B) If your SB account is linked then there is no necessity to link the PPF account.
    (C) The banks software is unable to link both the accounts .
    Please advise
    Bhasin
