Telecom company Bharti Airtel has suffered a major setback. In fact, the Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the GST refund of Bharti Airtel worth Rs 923 crore. The central government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Delhi High Court in which the court had ordered Bharti Airtel to refund GST of Rs 923 crore for the September 2017 quarter.
Bharti Airtel had sought GST refund of Rs 923 crore for the period July-September 2017. In May 2020, a two-judge bench of the Delhi High Court ruled Bharti Airtel to take GST refund.
Along with this, the government was also directed to verify the access GST claim. The High Court had directed the government to verify the additional GST claim and give refund to Bharti Airtel within two weeks. However, in July 2020, the Central Government had approached the Supreme Court against this decision of the Delhi High Court.
