This week Uber is launching a new service in India. Now you will be able to book Uber directly with the help of WhatsApp.
Tech Desk. US giant Uber is launching a new service in India that will give users the option to book an Uber ride through the official Uber WhatsApp chat box. This is the first for the company and the biggest success for WhatsApp in the country. Global-first integration for Uber is first rolling out in Lucknow. It will then offer it to users in New Delhi, and is set to go across India next year. WhatsApp has more than half a billion users in India, which is its largest user base. Uber also wants them to benefit from WhatsApp’s user base.
How will this new feature work?
1. WhatsApp users can book an Uber ride in three easy ways: messaging Uber’s business account number; scanning a QR code; Or clicking on a link directly to open an Uber WhatsApp chat. They will then be asked to fill the pickup and drop off location. The user will get the fare information and driver arrival time etc. data in advance on WhatsApp.
2. Riders enjoy the same safety features and insurance coverage as those who book trips directly through the Uber app. On booking they will be given the name of the driver and the information of the driver’s license plate. Will be able to track the location of the driver on the way to the pickup point. The user will get a number similar to the Uber app from which he will be able to call the driver directly.
3. The WhatsApp chat flow will inform the rider about safety, including how to reach Uber in an emergency (type help on-trip). If the user selects the “Emergency” option during the ride, they will receive a call from Uber’s customer support team.
