Looks like Google is finally expanding the way one can use Google Pay platform in India. The search giant might soon move ahead of just UPI based payment service and let people use card payment options as well via NFC system. There’s no public announcement but instead, the firm has made a couple of support pages live that tells people how to get on board with the new payment option. As noticed by folks at Android Police, this feature is limited Axis Bank credit/debit and SBI credit/debit cards only. However, this in all likeliness will expand in future.
It has been mentioned that you have to go through a verification process before you set up your card for payment. The process requires you to feed the OTP number received from your bank. Once your card is registered, you can start paying using NFC-enabled terminals via the Google Pay app.
Although this has not been rolled out aas widely, according to a Reddit post, users have been seeing this option since past one month. This is said to be a server-sized switch and the feature is still being rolled out to some in a limited manner. However, since the feature has already reached some and is still in the process of rolling out, it shouldn’t take a lot of time for Google to publicly announce it.
Google Pay is definitely a focus for Pichai as he confirmed during the Google for India 2020 event that the firm is planning to build a global product based on the India-focused G Pay app.
